wow! you do beautiful work! I have done some similar pieces, and am a self-taught Charles Reid fan. I didn't know he'd passed. he sure was a down-to-earth gentleman, and loved his family!

This is so helpful to see that you redid a painting, and actually changed it quite a bit. And that you struggle with muddying too :) so often we , students, think that all the other artists are getting everything right immediately the first time. And that can be discouraging.
@rachelsstudiodotcom6 күн бұрын
I agree. It's a very important part of any creative process to try a lot of different things, some of which will fail and some that will turn out amazing!

Rachel, check out Thomas W. Schaller re: on your point about local color and going to a color that works with the paintings instead of the local color itself, and for another amazing living watercolorist.

Also, Stephen Scott Young. He's amazing. Don't know if he's written any books.

Love Schaller and just shared his KZbin channel will my free and paid Patreon members. I'll check that other one out. At the end of the day, most art rules can be broken. There is a time to stay true to local color, a time to use a palette from the artist's own design and so on but I do like to learn artist's ideas of what works for them and play with those ideas in my own art

Thank you Rachel, This is perfect for what I was looking for. So much easier than using a color picker. You can enlarge the swatch for better viewing . I expect to be using this app every day as I am a portrait artist and always looking for the smallest color changes in the face. Get for palette layout. Thank you again for sharing,

I accidently grew 5 sunflowers after I fed squirrels black oil sunflower seeds. Lol. And YES I would have had 7 plants but the squirrels ate them. I have to feed the squirrels or they tear up everything. Best tip of your life..DO NOT FEED THE SQUIRRELS. Once you start they become dependant. If only the little babies weren't soooo cute.
@rachelsstudiodotcom8 күн бұрын
I've heard you can put spices on the plants you want left alone too. The babies ARE cute. Sigh.

Love getting your thoughts on this unique set. I was watching what you were using as comparison…and I was curious about Areolin (sp?) I’d seen Jane Blundell’s commentary on how it can turn grayish over time … have you found one that avoids that fate? It’s a pretty yellow and I can’t ever decide if I want it in the palette or not. Love your videos, thanks again!
@rachelsstudiodotcom12 күн бұрын
Hi there - it is true many brands that label their yellow as Aureolin are fugitive, but Holbein Aureolin is lightfast.

I think you miss swatched the greens. The yellow green was swatched in pthalo green spot and the chalky one is cobalt green which is naturally more opaque. Then i think the hookers green color was swached twice? Not sure. I also always mess up the first time and have to swatch multiple times! Paint wrappers type are just too small!
