Frederik: Selecting a senile, old man to narrate a youthful berserker & pirate like CONAN is the wrongest possible choice, until sobbing six year old girls start applying for narrator jobs.

It honestly makes me depressed that we've gotten to a point in society that we couldn't adapt Robert E Howards work into an HBO show. There isnt a soul left in hollywood with enough power to make things happen, and enough reverence for original work, required to properly adapt a Conan show. Even just 10 years ago there would have been literally dozens of directers and writers jumping at the bit with eagerness to faithfully adapt Robert E howards work. Now all the studios _cast_ writers instead of hiring them based on their abilities, and studios are deathly afraid of producing anything that could even remotely offend the average moron on twitter. Not to mention, the current generation of "activist/writers" in hollywood can't adapt anything without -deconstructing- vandalizing it by putting their own heavily modernized "socially acceptable" spin on it and making it "more palatable for modern audiences", therby trying to insert their own poorly disguised political opinions into the story. I mean hell Rings of Power was quite possibly the worst garbage ever to be put on television, and that was MOTHR FLIPPEN J.R. TOLKIEN!!! If they can't even make Tolkien without gutting it to oblivion until its utterly unrecognizable trash, then i dont even want to think about what some liberal arts student jack off would do to Robert E. Howards work. But just imagine a rated R, faithfully adapted, competently directed Conan the Barbarian anthology series on HBO where every episode or two was a self contained Robert E Howard conan tale. It would completely reinvigorate fandom and get an entire generation obsessed with pulp fiction stories again!

Why wait for Hollywood to do it?
@addictiontransfer3731
@addictiontransfer3731 Жыл бұрын
@@ZexyObserver ..because Hollywood has monopolized the movie making industry for the better part of a century and the only other viable competitors who might have an interest in making a Conan show (like the british market, BBC, etc) are just as indoctrinated into the zealous ideology of hypersensitivity and censorship as Hollywood is. The only markets that have the budget and the capacity to make a proper conan series are either just as pathetically out of touch as hollywood, or they simply wouldn't have any interest in it. The Indian, Japanese and South Korean movie/show industries are amazingly top notch, and have put out some of the best movies and shows made over the last decade, but none of them would have any interest in making a Conan series unfortunately.

@@addictiontransfer3731 "There is always a way, if desire be coupled with courage"
@addictiontransfer3731
@addictiontransfer3731 Жыл бұрын
@@ZexyObserver Not in hollywood. I appreciate your optimism, but platitudes failed to make dozens of great movies that had far more drive, courage, and desire behind them than any Conan series. Guillermo Del Toro's Mountain's of Madness, Nicholas Cage Superman, Heart of Darkness, Stanely Kubrick's Napolean, and James Dean's Biopic were all projects that not only had courage and desire, but more importantly had huge amounts of MONEY behind them, and dozens of hollywood bigwigs fighting to make it. They were almost all shot down due to either bad luck, bad timing, or the usual suspect; studios not wanting to bite the bullet and take a chance on something they thought wouldn't sell. With how overly cautious and out of touch modern studios are compared to when those movies were shot down, its nearly impossible any studio with the capability to make Conan would ever want to in the current cultural climate of demonizing historic ideals and perspectives, and mass censorship.
