Contest Rules & Timeline:
An over all winner will be picked based on the "best" knife presented by the views as deemed by the judging channels. There will also be a "novice winner." The novice submissions must come from makers with less than one year experience and by makers without a 2x72 belt grinder (please include in your email why you should be judged in the novice category - we will take this on a case by case basis). The second build videos by the judges will be posted on the 18th of November and the pictures are due by the 27th of November. Winners will be announced on the 30th of November.

That exposed tang is slick, awesome looking. I just glued up my 2nd knife ever and it’s for the build along. I saw a guy on here recently knock off the corners of those handle skills were a small writer table. And he was getting perfect symmetrical shaping thought it was a great idea. Be nice to see you have a go

Looks good bro. Next time you do a basket weave on leather you should do the weave pattern first then come back and do the border stamp I find it looks a little better by giving it a more finished look so you can hide the end of the weave better.

I already started making a basket weave texture kydex for mine, should be done in the next couple days when I get time to work on it. I've had that same buffer you got for 2 years now and never had a problem with it. I've used the crap out of it, love that thing.

Thanks for all the videos and content. I am just about to order some stuff to make my first couple of knives and see how it goes. I have experience in woodworking and some other detail-oriented crafts so I hope I will do ok. Could you not use your laser to etch the designs and cut the stitching holes as well? I don't have a laser so I don't know but I would think with the right settings you could do it that way.

Man. I really wanted to make one. But I forged out a blade in 52100, heat treated and did cryo, I hung it up to warm up, and forgot about it overnight. And it SPLIT IN HALF! longways down the blades spine. I'd never seen that happen before. So anyway. I decided fine, I'll make another, get it forged out, pretty much, then the tip cracked off. Idk what the deal is. They were both from the same billet. I really want to do this contest, but I just don't think I can afford to sink more money into it. Idk if I manage to get something worked out in time. I'll try again. It was just a lot of bad luck. Edit: I have heard of blades cracking from not tempering in time, but I meant specifically splitting down the middle like that.

I might have posted a picture on bladeforums in the what's going on in your shop thread I can't remember. I'll check later, and if I didn't I'll put one up there.

What's up Red beard. I like the color choice for the scales and getting to see the sheath making as well. I'm almost ready to get started making knives. I've got my bench, 2x72, portable bandsaw with table, and a forge. I'm excited to get started. I have 1 question. If I am not doing any forging only stock removal, is normalization needed? Or does it depend on the manufacture of the steal weather or not it is needed? Thanks, stay awesome.

289$ is way to cheap for that knife. Your time is worth more than that? My wife told me I couldn’t buy it though. How many hours approximately did it take to make? 8 hours puts you at 35$ an hour but I’m thinking it took a lot longer? Would of took me a week?

While I like your design I think you are getting to far away from people who don't have nor can they afford some of your tools. I'm by no means poor but even I can't afford some of this if you want to go into high end stuff more power to you but I make practical knives that don't require 100 hours of hand sanding which is where you started out you are beyond me I'll see you later

Actually Devin, if you look at the same little build challenge with the other builders, go to Wengels Workshop KZbin channel, one of the judges. He does the whole build with hand tools. Pretty impressive. Yes of course it’s nice to have power tools. And yes you are correct. That not everybody can afford them or has them in their shop, but there are ways around it. Check out his channel on this build.
