what type of copper tape are you using? i tried using copper tape that was supposed to be conductive on the adhesive side as well but it didn't work. i couldn't find the product you used in the video or in the description. is there an amazon affiliate link for your copper tape? great video btw :)
@MicroMageRepair7 күн бұрын
Unfortunately there isn't much in the way of identification on my tape rolls. I picked them up from an electronics surplus store (when there was still some of those around). It's vital to clean the adhesive side off before trying to solder with it. I usually solder the non adhesive side down then clean it off.

I repaired a cheap Ruby I bought on ebay the other day with the same issue. Someone tried replacing the battery and tore the + pad off. I soldered the negative terminal for the battery really well and just let the positive float after tinning it. Then I connected the R9 resistor to the positive battery tab with 30GA enameled wire. I also ran a wire to the VIA for the test pad (didn't know that just went to a test pad lol). Anyway, the clock works now and that battery isn't going anywhere it seems 😁 I also had to order some of those resistors as it was missing like you mentioned.

Awesome work! It will work fine floating. I repair the pad primarily for a little more security and esthetics. I probably still would on one I owned but only because I have the method down at this point. It's not necessary for function.

Great video! Is it possible that this part can have issues even if it isn't missing any pins? I have tried replacing the sd card reader itself, and it still only works when applying pressure.
@MicroMageRepair13 күн бұрын
Yes very possible. The solder joints can develop micro fractures after heavy usage. Manufacturer solder is a bit brittle with age and wear. May need to find someone with the equipment to refresh them (takes a pretty fine tipped professional grade iron)

It's a pretty straightforward repair. You do need the proper technique and equipment. The first few might take a few tries to get completely down every pin, but after a few, it really isn't a big deal.

@Ti0Luch0 I'd work up to it on some donor or trash boards of some sort with plastic connectors. Practice heating from below. Try and execute removal and replacement without damage. I definitely wouldn't try this cold, having never tried anything similar.

If you put a little more twisting force on the locking rings that hold the connectors in place you will find that they will rotate a few more degrees and really lock them in place very well(er). I operated mine for like 5 years before i realized you could do that.

What stop all the components on the other side you are heating from poping out or get damaged by the heat???
@MicroMageRepairАй бұрын
Surface tension and the boards own built in heat dispersion is enough as long as you don't bump the board or otherwise displace the parts or just sit there with direct heat pounding an area for a prolonged period of time. The length of time you are safe comes mostly from experience.

Is there a way of doing this on this station and how do you do it? Thanks so much I really appreciate the help. Thanks rich

Easy fix.Planned obsolescence. Make it so you need to take it apart to clean it. It breaks easily while you do it. Ps5 sony garbage. The fix is this. Grab a USB cable, cut off other end. On connector plug that came off board. Solder on 3 2" leads. The 2 outside wires, twist together. They go to the positive on the cable. The center is the negative. Solder it to the negative wire on usb cable. Insulating wires, test it in a 5 volt USB wall plug. If it works, close the bottom of ps5 the up and plug the USB cable in the back. This worked for mine. "F" sony, they did this on purpose.

Tried my first port replacement on the switch and i pulled about all of the same pads, i tried flowing from underside while applying pressure, i applied too much pressure. It was a switch that had been laying around with a no power issue.
@MicroMageRepair3 ай бұрын
Pressure is not necessary. If you heat from the bottom with the board either hanging off the bench or in a holder like I use that slightly elevates the board off the bench it will just drop off. Won't typically pull pads with that method if pad damage doesn't already exist. That being said it is still very repairable.
