The very first time I heard PHC I left my parents house in Iowa headed back to Fort Hood Texas after enjoying Christmas while on leave. As I listened to his program on that dark winter night, being alone didn’t feel so lonely. All these years later whenever I think of or hear old broadcasts of PHC, I’m blessed with same wonderful feeling I experienced as a young midwestern man on that cold dark winters night. God has truly blessed me with a beautiful life!

Garrison gave a showcase to great musicians who were mostly ignored by mainstream media.

I don’t think there will be a better story teller in my lifetime at least. Not many create a fictional world and can talk about it every week like he can about lake wobegon

It's nice to hear the show the way it used to be broadcast. I remember when he started singing "Hello Love" in the intro, I wrote to him asking him to sing the original song. And now I can't even remember what it was.

The actual radio show had no commercials. I had no idea it started with Disney.

I always enjoyed PHC and Garrison's performances. In this one, his footwork reminds me of the Canadian singer, Stompin' Tom Connors.

I am on a family members KZbin account so the name is a little misleading. I am a 40 year old man from Central Kentucky and much like Motown music this man's storytelling, singing and voice is something settling to my soul.

I'm a year older than GK and immediately heard the stylings of old '40s radio when I managed to tune in to his show. He's moved that kind of warm recall into his art form, certainly does it justice. Our listening to radio was our family entertainment, out on the edge of the prairies ourselves in a plains state. When Garrison delivers his stories, it rings so true to what our lives were like in our small farming community.

Who's here in 2023 taking a break from blasting people on pubg mobile to take time to listen to an American treasure and one of the best and most wholesome radio shows ever! When I was a boy and for started listening to prairie home companion back in the I could have never imagined it would join the ranks of old-time classic radio shows, which I have also always loved. ✌🏽😁🇺🇸

6:39 does anyone know if the nickel harp is related to the hurdy-gurdy.
@arneherstad2198
@arneherstad2198 Жыл бұрын
They are similar. The hurdy gurdy has keys, but instead of a bow, the sound is made with a rosin coated wheel turned with a crank. It also has drone strings, which make it sound like a bagpipe. The nyckelharpa has no drones, but it has unbowed sympathetic strings underneath, like the hardanger fiddle, that sound when certain notes are played on the main strings above them. Modern nyckelharpas have chromatic scales, so one can play Bach, if so desired. The long(er) string length contributes to the haunting beauty of its music. There are lots and lots of players of both instruments to be found on KZbin. I like both, but my heart belongs to the nyckelharpa.

Thanks Gary, for your gift of humor and insight! I was a faithful listener of your morning show with Jim Ed and getting into your Prairie Home show in Minneapolis in the early years for about $3 with a student fee statement. Meeting you at Malmerg's General in Marine was an unexpected highlight. Thanks for all the great chuckles and memories!

What a gift for all of us!! Miss APHC and Garrison Keillor's entourage. The special guests and the regulars, the musicians, the countless stories, the audience participation and the characters are missed so very much. No cursing or political demons, just plain old relatability to life, whether it was yours or not. Thank goodness for KZbin that Lake Wobegon is ours for the watching and saving. 🤗
