This is an episode of A Prairie Home Companion which was aired on the Disney Channel on April 11, 1987. During that season Garrison Keillor was preparing to retire, which he did for a short while before reviving the show in 1989. As part of his planned retirement he agreed to air his "last" season on the Disney Channel. Despite the show being revived, it was never broadcast on television again (although recently performances of A Prairie Home Companion have been broadcast to cinemas as part of Garrison Keillor's most recent attempt at retirement) . This episode is only 90 minutes long because the television broadcasts had 30 minutes cut out from them. This is also the only episode I have; it was taped off of a free preview weekend of The Disney Channel (when it was a "premium" network, like HBO). Apologies for the occasional video dropouts, the tape is a bit worn out and my video capture card doesn't tolerate worn tapes very well. Part 3 of 7.

I used to listen to the show when I was in the US fifteen years ago, and got to know more about the Norwegian/Swedish settlers in the US more than I knew about Florida where I lived. Then I moved to Sweden and worked there and learned Swedish. I had goosebumps all over when I listened to the song and realised that I understood the text.

Love it! my kinda song. I like Swedish songs like this one, more solemn than perky.

Is it just me or do the first two Swedish songs have a Medieval vibe?

Is that a "fluta-phone"? Keillor mentions them in "Lake Wobegon Days". The recorder-looking thingy.

That tune sounds like an Irish or French-Canadian (often the same tunes) tune slightly modified, or vice-versa.
