Tom....thankyou so much for all your efforts...I live in Denmark....and I've practised with Gohonzon from 1981....in fact I was shskubuk by Mr Herbie Hancock I'm a musician and pianist.... around 1975....but it took those years until I was in a situation...that there was no other way to come through it 'in one piece" I was in Switzerland working and had many challenging situations to face.... not least doing my job on a bandstand....and dealing with an authoritarian Boss/ bandleader I am from London UK and whilst working in dk...met the woman who would become mother to three kids (our first was a twin...and we lost his brother 3weeks after the birth App 6 weeks after I recievefnmy Gohonzon in London.....I was offered a job in a band coming to dk...and there I met my ex-wife It seems like my "MISSION" might be to help establish this practice here in DK There is an organization SGI DK but to me often it's like one big coffee club......and Danish people can have a certain "complacency".. as the society here is very well ordered...and predominantly....'middle class" and becoming more so every year......I have so much to ask you.... experiences.....and just dialogue...I wish we were physically much closer But in spirit I really feel I have found a "brother " I'll be in touch some more I almost can't get through the day without hearing something from..."Old Soup"!!!!!! I'll be in touch And would love to back you up in the Creation of an "independent nichiren movement".. NMHRK Frank Roberts...... NMHRK......... Hey Frank, it isn't me in your Buddha Mind: Nichiren taught both of us. We are his Original Disciples. Nam-myoho-renge-kyo! "At present the entire body of the Honorable Abutsu is composed of the five elements of earth, water, fire, wind, and space. These five elements are also the five characters of the daimoku. Abutsu-bō is therefore the treasure tower itself, and the treasure tower is Abutsu-bō himself. No other knowledge is purposeful. It is the treasure tower adorned with the seven kinds of treasures-hearing the correct teaching, believing it, keeping the precepts, engaging in meditation, practicing assiduously, renouncing one’s attachments, and reflecting on oneself. You may think you offered gifts to the treasure tower of the Thus Come One Many Treasures, but that is not so. You offered them to yourself. You, yourself, p.300are a Thus Come One who is originally enlightened and endowed with the three bodies. You should chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo with this conviction. Then the place where you chant daimoku will become the dwelling place of the treasure tower. The sutra reads, “If there is any place where the Lotus Sutra is preached, then my treasure tower will come forth and appear in that spot.”2 Faith like yours is so extremely rare that I will inscribe the treasure tower especially for you. You must never transfer it to anyone but your son. You must never show it to others unless they have steadfast faith. This is the reason for my advent in this world." WND 299

Hi! At 47:47, I blew it and forgot to clarify that this was talking abut kyochi-myogo. Your attainment of Buddhahood as a common mortal is mystic (myo). fusion of reality and wisdom ［境智冥合］ ( kyōchi-myōgō): The fusion of the objective reality or truth and the subjective wisdom to realize that truth, which is the Buddha nature inherent within one’s life. Since enlightenment, or Buddhahood, is defined as the state in which one fully realizes the ultimate reality, the fusion of reality and wisdom means enlightenment. T’ien-t’ai (538-597) discusses this principle in The Words and Phrases of the Lotus Sutra. In The Annotations on “The Words and Phrases of the Lotus Sutra,” Miao-lo (711-782) associates Shakyamuni Buddha and Many Treasures Buddha as they are portrayed in the “Treasure Tower” (eleventh) chapter of the Lotus Sutra with the fusion of reality and wisdom. This chapter describes Shakyamuni Buddha seated side by side with Many Treasures Buddha in the treasure tower. Miao-lo writes that these two Buddhas seated in this manner signify the fusion of reality and wisdom. Nichiren (1222-1282) identifies the Law that underlies the fusion of reality and wisdom as Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, and asserts that he embodied his enlightenment to that Law-the fusion of reality and wisdom-in the form of the Gohonzon, the object of devotion he established. In terms of Buddhist practice for people in the Latter Day of the Law, Nichiren maintained that, when they chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo with deep faith in the Gohonzon, they achieve the fusion of reality and wisdom within their own lives and are thus able to manifest the Buddha nature and attain Buddhahood. According to Nichiren, the Buddha nature constitutes reality, and faith in the Gohonzon, the embodiment of that nature, corresponds to wisdom. Nichiren states: “Reality means the true nature of all phenomena, and wisdom means the illuminating and manifesting of this true nature. Thus when the riverbed of reality is infinitely broad and deep, the water of wisdom will flow ceaselessly. When this reality and wisdom are fused, one attains Buddhahood in one’s present form. . . . What then are these two elements of reality and wisdom? They are simply the five characters of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo” (746).

Wow, Tom you are the best teacher! 🙏😀 I had a friend listen to this, and she's been practicing for 40 years and she was blown away, she heard stuff here that was never taught or emphasized by SGI. Oh, help with pronouncing the Sanskrit?..phonetics: "Ah-nan-dah",for Ananda, Buddha's disciple-read it like you read the english Japanese in Gonyo book!-NOT like your reading English, it's that's simple, except for when you see a "c" in sankrit, it's pronounced as "ch", like in "church". Hope you're doing good health wise as well as your obvious mental/emotional health! (excellent!)

Thank you Tom. I really enjoyed this chapter. As I was driving to my sister's house, I could not stop thinking of what you said that we are eternal and uncreated, the original source, Nam Myoho Renge Kyo. I brought be to tears, tears of joy. I am beside myself because it has taken me this long to realize, what Nichiren has been telling us over and over that we are the Buddha. I was just a voice hearer.

So you know, realize that what you experienced was an awakening to the truth of your life; as Nichiren says in Chapter 16 of the OTT on page 124/125 "Speaking in terms of the six stages of practice, the Thus Come One in this chapter is an ordinary mortal who is in the first stage, that of being a Buddha in theory. When one reverently accepts Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, one is in the next stage, that of hearing the name and words of the truth. That is, one has for the first time heard the daimoku. When, having heard the daimoku, one proceeds to put it into practice, this is the third stage, that of perception and action. In this stage one perceives the object of devotion that embodies the three thousand realms in a single moment of life. When one succeeds in overcoming various obstacles of illusions, this is the fourth stage, that of resemblance to enlightenment. When one sets out to convert others, this is the fifth stage, that of progressive awakening. And when one comes at last to the realization that one is a Buddha eternally endowed with the three bodies, then one is a Buddha of the sixth and highest stage, that of ultimate enlightenment. Speaking of the chapter as a whole, the idea of gradually overcoming illusions is not the ultimate meaning of the “Life Span” chapter. You should understand that the ultimate meaning of this chapter is that ordinary mortals, just as they are in their original states of being, are Buddhas. And if you ask what is the action or practice carried out by the Buddha eternally endowed with the three bodies, it is Nam-myoho-renge-kyo.

Hi! At 27:40 I mentioned "Cause Awakened One" twice! I misspoke and should have started with "Voice Hearers." The point being made is that Voice Hearers, Cause Awakened Ones, and Bodhisattvas are all not separate stages. All are phases of Buddhahood.

Loved this,very practical, your explanation of the 9 consciousnesses-Nichiren Daishonin has assigned/revealed that the Pure,pristine one, Amala, the 9th consciousness is "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo"-very clever way of focusing on that basic reality of absolutely everthing and "no-thing".! 🙏

He is just letting us know: :"amala-consciousness ［阿摩羅識］ ( amala-vijnāna; amara-shiki): Also, free-of-defilement consciousness or pure consciousness. The ninth and deepest of the nine consciousnesses. Amala means pure or undefiled, and vijnāna means discernment. The eight consciousnesses set forth in the Consciousness-Only doctrine consist of the six consciousnesses (discernment by eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind), the mano-consciousness, and the ālaya-consciousness. To these the Summary of the Mahayana (Chin She-lun; Shōron) school founded by Paramārtha (499-569), the Flower Garland (Hua-yen; Kegon) school founded by Tu-shun (557-640), and the T’ien-t’ai ( Tendai) school added a ninth consciousness, which is defined as the basis of all of life’s functions. While the eighth, or ālaya-consciousness contains karmic impurities, the amala-consciousness is pure, free from all defilement, and corresponds to the Buddha nature. See also nine consciousnesses." As you can see the concept precedes the birth of the Daishonin, so it could never have been defined any more accurately than the definition found here in the Dictionary. More than clever! The Daishonin was the Buddha of the Latter Day of the Law! T. (Very good to hear you!)

I have only been studying with you a few months; my womens chapter sgi leader suggested I tune in. I want to start by thanking you for standing up & not being intimidated by pressured loyalties other than relying on the words of the gosho,.When you asked in the OTT lectures 'has anyone read OTT ever, I said YES. I have relied on the gosho & Nichirens words to understand the best I can. I too began in 1973. I stopped chanting for 2 years when I became so discouraged by things that did not relate to enlightenment or kosen rufu.The gosho and practice are very difficult when leadership makes you feel like you need permission to practice, approval to practice.Anyway, thanks again,. There is a big difference between opinions & what Nichiren teaches. I'll send daimoku to surround your heart so you can keep this up. I'm in Lake Tahoe CA

PS-started chanting again when I was gravely ill & realized I survived because of my fortune to have practiced all my life. I started chanting again truly out of gratitude. I wrote to Daisaku Ikeda about the things I felt were not in line with the gosho, and used the gosho to explain myself. I then chanted really sincerely that there could be some change. And I did see in Sensei's writings a change, an openess, and adherence to writings as they are. Since then my health has improved, I'm working again. The pandemic got everyone used to being alone with computers and cartoon relationships. I fear human revolution will discontinue if we rely on that. I WISH SOMETIME YOU WOULD DISCUSS THE MEANING OF NINGEN KAKUME - character by character. I use a daimoku chart that is the Japanese characters for Ningen Kakume. I know you are busy. I'' meet in front of the Gohonzon.
