Tip to stop impulse buying. I took my CC off line with Amazon, I buy gift cards now that limit what I can spend. If I don't have enough on the gift card balance I have to wait until I go out and get another one, but by the time I get around to it, I don't want the thing I thought i had to have... Having a spending limit keeps me in check.

I cannot help but FEEL right now that ALL of my money was wasted. My husband and I sacrifed EVERYTHING for our son. Toys, clothes, karate, gym, soccer, music, and swim lessons and on and on. Braces, dont forget the braces! All so he could have a great life. BUT NOW, his father has died, the house we lived in is gone, and my dear son has died at age 29. I feel robbed. I know in my heart that it wasn't all for nothing, but it feels that way right now. Im in my 60's and can only see a dim future of financial struggling, sadness, and loveliness.

I was made to go to private school. Absolute waste of my parent’s money. We had the most drugs, the least supervision and unwarranted expectations placed on females. I got out as soon as possible, done at 16 and waited a year and a half for my graduation certificate- they wanted me held back in life! No thank you to any group that wants to control my mind and body.

When I was in my 20s, my then boyfriend and I used to spend our Saturday mornings and sometimes afternoons hitting local garage sales for bargains. At the time, I usually limited myself to $20.00 to $25.00 per trip. I thought we were being frugal, but now I wish I had invested that money when I was younger because almost all of the items I purchased are gone.

3 to 4 hours of homework a night, something is wrong with that, not covering the subjects enough in school. Yes the earlier we invest the better, no one told us. Re the air fryer, I haven't succumbed to the pressure to buy it, takes up too much counter space and not large enough I can relate to the weigh fluctuation and having to consume less calories to lose or maintain, each persons metabolism is different.. I appreciate your honesty Dawn, I regret overspending on gifts etc for others, doing without to pay for those gifts, never again,

Buying clothes I haven't tried on is a dumb waste of money when I get it home. It wasn't always my fault! after the pandemic the thrift stores I go to got rid of the change rooms! So I buy things there knowing that I might not fit and hope for the best. I try to find better stores or people to donate the clothes to. As opposed to big corporations I re-gift to people less fortunate than me for free.

It is amazing how even the most stoic amongst us get caught up with infomercials! I also bought an air fryer and used it twice before giving it to a friend! And those gadgets that chop things into nice, evenly shaped bits. They were a waste for me because you have to peel and cut the veg into a certain size to fit the machine and I thought you may as well just finish cutting it yourself!

When we know better, we do better. After having the tornadoes come through our area, where there have been NO tornadoes for over 100+ years, it made it much easier to move things to new people and out of the house. You betcha! A great reality check. I am not going minimalist in my storage of things I know I will use (I still think we have entered a depression and that things will be expensive, and certainly the quality has dropped), but I am really cutting out any maybe items. The "maybe" items have been leaving at a nice rate, and I can feel the difference in my mind and my house already. "Maybe" now means "No," to me.

I have one of those foot baths too that I hardly used. I have too many clothes and too much junk, so the decluttering continues. I will be donating to thrift stores that benefit animals. I will not donate to Goodwill after finding out the man who owns those places is a millionaire. I refuse to make him richer! This has made me more mindful of what I buy in the future. I put things in the cart and wait a day or two. A lot of times I really don't want the stuff and delete it.

I just went through the high-school issue with my own daughter. We considered the local Catholic high-school. But their academics were below our local public school's. Reg Public High here in Los Angeles, CA they give us lots of HW too, in preparation for College/ University. A good Air fryer would take the place of your slow cooker and would pressure cook too. I believe that my specific air fryer is a wonderful Investment. I don't heat up our home when I can prepare in my NingaFoodieXL . One thing where we did waste money was in a deep fryer. The amount of oil needed to use it was also an issue. The foods I prepare were delicious but at a big cost.

Christmas time I would spend about 600.00 per person and with 7 people that was a huge undertaking….I no longer do that. I set an amount of like 250.00 for all,not each and don’t go over that amount. I also budget that money so it’s not a large amount to come up with all at once.❤❤❤

I cannot imagine spending so much money on Christmas presents, even though I could. When my parents were alive, I am 73 and they died 14 years ago, the family, 5 of us, would never spend more than, say, $125. We bought 1 'best' present and them we bought lots of small, cheap fun items and under the tree was full. Some favourite chocolates, 2nd hand books to read over the holiday season. I kept a look out all year for little gifts. I also made christmas cakes for all the family, ...we loved it, took the whole morning.

We spend a lot on Christmas and birthdays. It's the only present some family members receive. I am grateful we can afford it.

Telling myself when I was young (I really did believe this) that I didn’t earn enough money to save. Stupid on steroids! Fortunately I got smarter about saving, but I did waste quite a few years by having such a negative attitude.

I can appreciate almost all of those things. Yes I have bought things that I thought I would use, but don't. The dumbest thing was to buy smaller clothes when I was losing weight, to never actually be able to wear them before I gained it back. What really is a healthy weight? In HS I weighed 108, when I got pregnant with my first son it was 117, daughter 130, and third son 135. In my 50s it was 165 and now at 79 175. By the doctor's assessment I am obese. I may be fat but I am healthy. I see the doctor once a year to get my prescription for thyroid medication and blood work. I don't have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, arthritis, heart issues, bone issues, or anything else that people my age and weight get. I would like to lose some weight but being healthy is far more important. We have in our lifetime purchased new and used cars. If it was new we drove it until the wheels fell off. The worst thing we did was purchase a used Audi that was nothing but a piece of junk. It was in constant need of repair. If we would have been smart we would have gotten rid of it right after we purchased it and bought a reliable vehicle.

@@3TXSisters What I can be grateful for is having good genes. My mother was just shy of 99 and although she had dementia she took no medication and was never in the hospital for anything other than child birth. On my father's side almost all of my ancestors lived into their 70s-90s. My 9th great grandmother was born in 1595 and lived to be 90. She had been a widow for 40 years. Her husband got sick on the ship coming over and died soon after. Her son, my great grandfather born in 1624 lived to be 96.

I enjoyed eating out after church. I was exhausted getting everyone ready for Sunday School and church. I didn't plan ahead to put something in the crockpot to be ready when we got home. I'll never forget the Sunday we visited a new church and my husband invited the pastor and his family to lunch. I knew we had nothing to fix because I needed to go to the grocery store. I made tuna casserole! My husband hates it, but that's all I had to feed all of us, lol. I really didn't do it on purpose. 😂😂😂

Just FYI, teenage girls need more calories than middle-aged women so no wonder you were hungry as a high schooler on 1200 calories a day. I predict you would find it easier as a lady in her 50s to eat an average of 1800 calories a day (not sure of your height but that’s what the NIH has for me in their calorie calculator.)

After so long of being hungry and not eating, except regular meals...your stomach will automatically shrink and not require as much food to get full. It's not easy to do, but the health rewards are well worth the effort it takes... it's a lifestyle change, all for the better.
