I noticed a few times there weren't any lifesavers when changing from position 2 to 3, a good example is at 20:30 when only a mirror check was used to change position and then he even changed lane, to avoid parked traffic on the left, with only a questionable lifesaver done after he had already crossed the line. I was under the impression that it is absolutely essential to do lifesavers in these scenarios, even changing lane positions, and that not doing so could result in a fault during the test. I would be very grateful if you could provide some clarification about when it is necessary to do lifesavers and whether anything was done wrong in the example I highlighted, and if so, what faults did he receive from doing this. Thanks!

Lifesavers are required if you're moving beyond what the mirror is showing you. In this case Gavin's move across wasn't enough to warrant a lifesaver and he handled it well. A lifesaver is taking your eyes off the road and should be used sparingly. That said, if in doubt - lifesaver!

Interesting. Test should be at least 35 mins on the road. It seems some examiners don't announce the independent ride, only asking the candidate to follow the signs for a particular destination.

Unfortunately the nearest test routes to me are 34 miles away in an area i never go to. Theres a choice of 5 fairly complex routes. I would say to anyone who can, spend time driving or riding the test routes long before your test. Use satnav to confirm the speed on every road etc as they can change without noticable indications. Remember the examiner already knows all the things you are trying to find out on your test while dealing with nerves and new surroundings. Not to mention the traffic thats trying to knock you off your bike if they can.

Top tips. 👍

Yes, absolutely correct. If no traffic is coming either side is fine, with traffic coming take the left side - swerving into oncoming traffic is most definitely a fail! 👍

Do you think it’s possible and how likely could someone pass their DAS after CBT the. They only book 5 day course would you think they could pass there DAS? I’ve passed my CBT well completed it and I’m 44 and wanted to move up to a 300cc bike for next bike as I fin d 125cc bikes are a lot harder to be safe than a 300cc I ride on private properly as the bike had more power allowing easy pull offs and control from me at least I’m hoping I can do it after only a 5 days course but also wanted to ask if I book my DAS which includes training if I’m not ready to go for my mod 1/2 tests can I book more lessons and keep practicing until they think and I think I can pass?
@Lets-rideUk2 ай бұрын
For someone who can ride comfortably and has experience on a big bike already, then we usually book them in for the 4-day course. 👍
@Simlife1012 ай бұрын
The reason so many look over the left shoulder when doing the life savers when parked on the side of the road is due to being told none stop in our CBT to do it 😅 it’s so confusing. My CBT instructor said I had to look over both shoulders when pulling off at all times now I see many say in DAS you don’t have to

Hi Richard, I just wanted to write a quick note to say thank you so much for your time and effort uploading these videos. I've been watching them (repeatedly in some cases!) in preparation for my DAS, and I only wish I had an instructor who was as jovial and conscientious as you come across in your videos. On the point of letting the pedistrian cross on a two lane road. My examiner gave me a minor fault for doing exactly this. Apparently my stopping in lane 2 to let pedistrians cross was wrong. Lane 1 was clear when i stopped but i was told a vehicle could have over taken me on my left and collided with the pedestrian as they stepped off the pavement. So it appears the examiner can fail you or not at their discretion!

Up to you but a good idea to cancel it just in case you forget about it and pull away with it on flashing the wrong direction (only a minor fault). 👍

Doing my A1 light mod 2 test soon. Will they still take you on a 70mph as my bike only goes 55 to 60 tops
@Lets-rideUk2 ай бұрын
From my experience the examiners tend to avoid the faster 70mph roads on the A1 test, knowing the bike will struggle to hit 60mph. But you should prepare for it, just in case.

Got my cbt tomorrow If I downshift into 2nd coming up to a a red light but it changes to green right before I would have stopped , say at this point I’m doing 3-4 mph, do I leave it in second and accelerate away or do I need to go into 1st with me going so slow? Hope that makes sense, thanks mate. Your videos have been priceless.
@Lets-rideUk2 ай бұрын
If you're going as slow as 3-4mph then I'd suggest going down to 1st gear. Otherwise the engine will bog down when you pull away without significant clutch slippage (which is ok btw). Best of luck with it.

Failed my test yesterday for the fact that I was coming from a minor road going to a major road and didn't close the gap between me and the curb and the examiner came and fit his motorcycle there. My question is is that a major fail for not closing that gap? Thanks

If you're substantially out of position then a life saver into the gap before moving off is the way to go. 👍

Useful info for any rider planning to do the Module 1 test in Mallusk, Belfast, Northern Ireland. The course is set up very differently to what you see on KZbin. Be prepared for a much tighter uturn and a much tighter figure of 8. Also, unlike in England, when you do the figure of 8 you cannot go around the last yellow cone.
