Fill factor will depend on site conditions and the soil characteristics. 1.3 is just a common default value used when better information isn't available.

Hi Steven, is there a way to identify the coordinate system type of the .las file? I'm experimenting with other .las files that weren't used in the video and am wondering if there's a way to figure this out. I'm referring to the coordinate system identification at 1:38. Thank you for the wonderful video!
@StevenYounkinCivil2 жыл бұрын
Hi Grape, glad it is helpful. I think you're best bet is to find the metadata from the source. The Iowa Geotree site has their data in this format www.geotree.uni.edu/static/lidar/iowa_lidar_metadata.html. It doesn't seem the Iowa data stores their metadata in a header as yours may not either, but it's worth checking. CloudCompare can pull that I believe. The final desperate solution would be if you know approximately where your data is and common formats, you can guess. Around Iowa we commonly use State Plane, some low distortion projections, UTM, WGS84 etc. Good luck!

how to link eexcel data to shapefile data for updation/modification
@StevenYounkinCivil3 жыл бұрын
Shrish, If I understand your problem correctly you are looking to have some kind of data join. The simplest way in my mind would be to open your shapefile in a GIS software (e.g. ArcMap/QGIS) together with a csv/txt of the excel data and perform a "join" based on a common attribute. Then you could export this to another shapefile and import that into C3D, this could be updated every time your data is updated or modified. Alternatively, it appears there is a solution using the C3D Map with a join inside of the software. forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-map-3d-forum/joining-an-external-db-table-to-a-shapefile/td-p/7963019 It appears another user has a video describing this process, though back in 2012, so not sure it will be the same with the version you are using: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pH-qi6iHadBlr5o Regards, Steven

Is there any .las to .rcp converters that are free or do I have to buy Recap?

Hello Giampiero, rcp should be an autodesk proprietary file format. My understanding is that Recap can only be created using Autodesk products like Recap.

Since the design surface has a different interval from the base surface they do not appear to match. If that was important for your plan production you could modify the display settings.

Is there a way to automatically adjust the elevation to make the cut and fill as close to equal?
@StevenYounkinCivil4 жыл бұрын
There may be, but I'm not aware of a tool provided inside of C3D for that. If you are dealing with some kind of tedious or repetitive workflow involving equalizing cut/fill there is likely at least some kind of script or plugin available for that.

how to import point cloud with .txt file in cloud compare
@StevenYounkinCivil4 жыл бұрын
I believe that is relatively similar to .las import. For instance, on the www.geotree.uni.edu/lidar/ website there is an option to download ".xyzi" format data, that is X coordinate, Y coordinate, Elevation and Intensity. Cloud Compare doesn't recognize the ".xyzi" formate, but it can simply have it's file path renamed to ".txt" and then click the "File->open" and make sure the "Open Ascii File" Wizard which pops up uses the correct fields to populate the point cloud. If you already have a .txt file with the proper fields you can skip the file path renaming and just start from the opening step.

I had a question. This is my first attempt at teaching myself how to Grade. I was already given contours for the project I'm working on in advance, I placed the contours to where they should be on the original coordinates before beginning. As I followed your instructions an issue came up right away as I couldn't see the elevations. Then when I tried to create the grading, it didn't allow me as it said "Target surface needs to be selected." followed by "There are no surfaces available." Please help me to understand why this is occurring, thank you!
@StevenYounkinCivil4 жыл бұрын
I am not quite sure what is going on. I do know to create a grading you need a surface first, it's possible you haven't made a surface yet. If you have it should pop up under the Grading Creation Tools window. I have taken a screenshot and uploaded it to this dropbox folder of what it should look like. I also uploaded a quick example of a finished simple grading. www.dropbox.com/sh/r5wwvlqgc7oj44t/AADF3Muq_bgvrSoSc1bSaf8ma?dl=0

@StevenYounkinCivil5 жыл бұрын
@@ssemakulamusa3125, while I am not familiar with rice levees, you may find it useful to create a surface from breaklines. You create feature lines which represent the appropriate edges of your levee and set the elevation to the desired height along the lines. This is Autodesk's tutorial on that process: knowledge.autodesk.com/support/civil-3d/getting-started/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2019/ENU/Civil3D-Tutorials/files/GUID-9CC1D50D-1542-4CD3-8136-D6E512D5C64E-htm.html best of luck

Hi Steven. It's a great tutorial that I've seen more than once because I always forget about something when grading. As a tip, just in case you don't know yet, you could use the command "SELECTIONCYCLING" and set it as "2". This will allow you to choose the element you want to select when some lines overlap ;)

Great tutorial, it really helped me! Just one additional step users may need: if you have your drawing settings are unitless you will need to switch it to US Feet before you attach the point cloud -- command InsUnits, set to 21

That is a good point. I forgot to mention I was using a template which automatically set those units.

@StevenYounkinCivil5 жыл бұрын
Hi Javier, it is likely because of the template you are using when you started up your civil 3D file. Autodesk has an overview about them: knowledge.autodesk.com/support/civil-3d/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2018/ENU/Civil3D-UserGuide/files/GUID-BEECDB8A-96FC-453B-B1F7-D7C9066F10E6-htm.html.
