After spending months working on my "Luke style" tones and trying to dial the circular and pan delays on my Hx Stomp based on the info I found online, I found your channel and purchased your rack tones for hx, at least I'll see how close I got haha
@gioelevio1626Күн бұрын
I was quite close actually, I only closed the Hicut a bit more and used more diffusion on the circular and pan delays, overall a slightly softer sound. Anyway all the effects sound very good, I really liked the Pitch Shifter a lot. Thank you very much, it's great to have a reference point from somebody that owns and knows those real units:)! I want to ask you something just out of curiosity, I knew (but only from researcing the Internet) that the repetitions of the circular delay from PCM-70 go right>left>center, are they different in your PCM-80? Like left>right>center? (The preset sound GREAT, so I'm not complaining, but I'm curious about the differences between units😀)

The rack has better tone quality, but the pedal is good enough. The rack is way too expensive compared to the pedal. But the rack sounds better, no doubt about it.

I used the original unit all through the 90's, and I must say that it wasn't used only as a delay. I mainly used it as a chorus, and actually used other units for delay and reverb (Quadraverb, Lexicon LXP15 etc.) We used to have a mixing console in our guitar-rack back then, so that you didn't have to go through everything with the direct signal.. The original 2290 had 4 mono-loops and one stereo-loop in the back of the unit, and they could all be turned on and off via midi. I used the effect-loops for switching between preamp--channels, and between different preamps (Mesa Boogie Studio Preamp/Triaxis, and ADA-MP1), adding effect pedals etc. I also used them for switching between poweramp-modes on my Mesa 2:90. The TC was kind of the brain in a big guitar-setup, and I had a lot of presets that really changed the whole setup pr. preset. And the floor controller was so robust and great-looking. And we must not forget that it really looked cool in a rack! If you had it, you kinda was one of the cool cats :)

Thanks for doing this! I ended up springing for the 2290P also. I've considered purchasing the OG on more than one occasion, but I'm wary of these early 90's rack units due to the age degradation of irreplaceable and unrepairable components. Can I hear the difference? Yes. Does it really matter? No. The pedal sounds great!
@darkscarf2 ай бұрын
Hey Kjetil, thanks a lot for the video! This is a great comparison. To my ears, OG's panning modulation is much smoother like a gentle sine wave. Pedal delays move from one side to the other rather abruptly like they are not spending much time in the middle, even with the same frequency of the OG. Maybe have different modulation oscillators? Or due to the age of the OG, its components are not as "fast" as the pedal anymore. Regarding tone, OG is again a bit gentler. Even with filters, tone of the delays pedal produces are crisper, shaper to my ears. Maybe the OG sounded like that when it was new... who knows! They did an incredible job with the pedal I think, to bring so much of that 2290 mojo to new generation with relatively affordable price so I'll stick with it for now but despite what I just said, I'd prob also buy an OG down the line. Btw, any chance you can share the preset or the settings with us? Cheers!

Thanks for the comparison. I picked 'B' as the Line 6 - If you listen carefully, you'll notice a drop off in high frequency response of 'B' vs 'A'. This is the same issue I noticed when i pulled the HX Stomp off my board and the tone came to life. Making the jump to Eventide for this reason alone - L6 has excellent products but I can't shake the tone loss experience (audience will never notice the difference. It's just my goofy brain...)
@KanlydNorge3 ай бұрын
Well the funny thing is that 99% guesses wrong.. A is actually the HX and it indeed sounds cleaner than the huge rack. I sold most of my rack after this video series coz the Line6 is good enough.

*What is the EXACT signal chain??!* I think (B) is the FULLTONE TERC PLUGIN from UAD and (A) is the LINE 6 HX... Why? Because plugins tend to nearly always have a TUBBINESS in the low frequencies with a scooped low-mid range and smeared-midrange with prickly hyped-highs to make up for lack of clarity

Hii. I’m currently redesigning my live board to be used in mono, stereo or W/D/W. It involves using a small RJM mixer to add a dry path for my Eventide H90. A new TC SCF for chorus. And the Boss SDE-3000P for delays. Stay tuned
