You could have brought the units back a few turns earlier and declared war earlier while they were still accumulating units. Nevertheless I would've given up just like you. The AI isn't very bright, and giving power to the unbright always leads to frustrations.

I agree with Husky that Civ IV is better than 5. There are so many gay things about Civ 5 that maybe some people like. The penalizing of the player for trying to build an empire. The focus on the importance of the Olympics as unlimited resource sink. The difficulty of conquering city states. The designer discouraging roads because "they're ugly". Well anyways it's in the past now and time heals all wounds. Civ VI is even more popular than V on steam. IV is almost pre Steam. I like the idea of Civ 8 being modular. Just update the graphics and let people play their favorite rule set from Civ history.

I think you made a mistake in your opening that has really closed a lot of people’s minds. Civ 5 is a lot of people’s favorite Civ and placing it last made myself and many others quite defensive. I nearly clicked off of the video immediately. I like what you have to say about Civ 7 and your ideas for how it could succeed and fail, I think in most regards you are quite right, especially regarding UI. But unfortunately after the stumbling block of an intro most people have already decided that you are wrong. Sorry.

As someone who has played a lot of games, and has watched a lot of CIV YT videos, whenever I watch a video and see a player own so hard like the game is his b*tch, I laugh because I see them in situations and think to myself, "F*ck, that never happens to me." I've been wanting to add a bit of cold hard reality to CIV on KZbin which is part of why I started this channel. I have a couple of other humiliating defeats coming through the pipe, so keep watching and thanks for checking out the channel.

Have been playing every Civ game since Civ II. (Even though i am older than you i never got to play the original Civilization) The inability to get the earlier wonders at high difficulty levels is what keeps me at the medium levels. With all the things i have learned from quite a few Civ streamers i´m quite sure i could be deity AI. Probably. Would i like to find out if i actually could - maybe someday. For now i like to have fun...

You might look into the mod "Late Game AI". It lessens AI early bonuses and ramps it up every era. Makes early wonders more reasonable while making the late game even more challenging than Deity.

@@EmotionalHuskysCivStories I love the mod. It solves two of civs' biggest problems: Harsh early game. Boring late game. PotatoMcwhiskey calls it the "rubberband" mechanic. You articulated many of the concerns I have about 7, and I am just not confident on how much I will enjoy it day one. That being said, I will buy and play it on day one as always, and trust the devs to fix what isn't fun and iterate until it is also a "just one more turn" classic alongside all the others. Fingers crossed they won't let me down.

I made a video recently called, "Why CIV Players are Smarter than Regular Gamers" and some of what I talk about in there might echo for you. Check it out. Thanks, for sharing this heart warming story. Who knows, maybe I even knew you from civfanatics @EmotionalHuskysCivStories, I knew more than one passionate Civ4 Canadians. :) I can only say that Civilization had me anchored as well. I just do everything else better if I allow myself to indulge into games, and especially Civ. And I can't say that I struggled getting recognized or getting money but I did struggle getting any motivation without also getting some joy from games, mostly Civ. Earning a right to play has made me go successfully through a bit sooner than expected fatherhood, going through university, being a good engineer, losing a father, being a lead and being an entrepreneur. Whenever, I refrained from gaming due to number of responsibilities and that being a "right" thing to do by some normal world standards, stress and bad mood would kick in. Whenever I started gaming again, I would flourish. Funny thing is that I have spent much more time on games than on all of those things combined (except my family). If there was no transferable skill from Civ, I would have been much less successful, for sure and I should have failed at everything by the effort I put. In my opinion, the biggest advantage and that Civ basically trains you to do is the ability to go in that Civ-like bird-view perspective, look at stuff through environment, resources, sequence and time and just focus on doing things with greatest impact from the random position you are in. I think that I am extremely trained in being extremely efficient/impactful and have unintentionally spent 24 years training efficiency (and I am mid thirties) while having a lot of fun. Due to that I think I start with a lot of experience in all I try to do. It is a cheat code IRL.

@@EmotionalHuskysCivStories one good thing about steam is that it tracks hours played so I can backup my opinion with 2500+ hours of civ 5 and 1000+ hours of civ 6. civ like you said, is meditative, it is not however, challenging in any respect. Beating the game on diety is braindead easy, with any settings. The AI is pathetic.

@@EmotionalHuskysCivStories You may be interested to know that all the new features being introduced in Civ 7 are already in Humankind.

I think the main reason anybody finds the series challenging is that they play it like a roleplaying game instead of a strategy game. Often flavor and mood are given front seat to strategy and wincons.
@EmotionalHuskysCivStories5 күн бұрын
The AI is flawed. But it's not easy. If it's easy for you, maybe you're just really good at all of those things I talked about. I have heard this about Humankind. I made a video about my concerns about the upcoming game and I think, perhaps, a lot of those concerns relate to features from Humankind. I definitely play it for the fun of playing through history and victory is a secondary concern.
