I just got my h4 essential. Someone please tell me how to connect to a dj board or speaker and what cables I need? I thought I would feel more confident once I got it but I still feel intimidated to start poking around on a dj’s setup! Any advice would be appreciated for an audio newb over here!

When I plug this into a karaoke machine all I get is feedback. Same on any of my amps.

In the field app, is it possible to record individual tracks in MP3 format and export them from the SD card? I can do this for WAV format. However, when I set the format to MP3 all inputs get mixed to one stereo track and I cannot see the individual tracks.

How do I adjust the volume of a loop back source with a microphone input? My particular application I’m trying to do is connect the Zoom F3 to my iPhone or iPad, use karaoke software from the iPhone or iPad as the loop back source, sing into a microphone connected to the zoom F3, and listen to both through the headphones connected to the zoom F3. I can hear everything but the volume of the mic input relative to the karaoke music is too low. I’d like to turn up the microphone volume or turn down the karaoke volume to balance the two.

Well this would have been perfect for my fly rig, and I was getting ready to preorder it, but when I checked the amp list it's almost all dad rock amps and I'm a high-gain metal player, so it's basically worthless to me. Why on earth would you need 20+ Fender/Vox/Marshall amps? Older players in blues and cover bands probably wouldn't stray from their combos anyway. Makes no sense. The only modern hi-gain options were 2 Mesas and a Diezl.

An updated podtrak p4 would be cooler with combo jacks and 32bit float. It’s a great device for podcasting but with just those extra features it would be amazing.

I have the Zoom H1 Essential and I’m looking to possibly add the H1 XLR or the H4 Essential for wedding video work. I can’t wait to see more reviews on this. I love the size of this recorder.

Why does this still not have Timecode support? A pass for me since I really require timecode in my workflow. I sync all my cameras via Timecode and all my audio recording is done with timecode. In this day and age not having Timecode means the product isn't professional enough.

So should it be best to film in Ambisonics A so we can export to other formats later with the Zoom Ambisonics Player app? I'm filming outside and wish to uplaod to KZbin.

Not one video of the R4, by Zoom or any YT channel, does an overview of how to set up the hardware, cables, lines in and out. Will the headphone jack provide audio to a monitor or cabinet? How are these KZbin reviewers playing guitar with an effect o the sound and I am hearing on the video in "real time" not a recording from the R4? All I get from them all is "recording into an R20". So, in other words, to hear my guitar track AS I PLAY, I need another piece of equipment?

Hi! Can one use the XLR Combo inputs and the 3,5mm input at the same time? Use case would be for example to mount this on a boompole with xlr mic and have wireless lav system go into the 3,5mm as stereo signal.

Just in case anyone tries to look this up to find out what problem they're having it turns out that this is a piece of garbage do not buy this and if you did buy it return it as soon as possible I got mine used on ebay and it's in good shape and overall it does seem to work fine but as many of you will discover it will not connect to the PC. I've tried several different things reformatting the card putting it in different SD card slots i've tried different USB cables i've done everything you can imagine to try to get this problem resolved and it just turns out that this is just a carp. Do not waste your money on this and shame on zoom for making such a terrible product that they did not test. They do not support thoroughly. i'm very disappointed with the lack of internal storage and the fact that this doesn't do any basic things yes it will record and yes you can play it back from the device but good luck trying to get the files off this thing. Thanks for wasting my morning zoom you guys are terrible people and I will never buy a product from you again.

I’ve got a few zoom products - H3VR, H1E and the F3 too. This looks like it could be a great addition to the collection potentially. It might not be an F3, but I’m still keen on trying it out. Looks like it could have many useful applications.

"on its sd card" i quote you in the video , well I'm extremely disappointed i watched this and many of your videos before buying and you don't include an sd card of any sort so it arrives and i can't record till i order an sd card they are cheap ! and wait a few days. This seems so tight its embarrassing for you as a company . Then it took me 20 minutes of searching your site googling and reading the info that came with itin the box to find how to register it. I mean I'm a computer tech. there is zero in the box on the box or on the site . Id suggest Zoom sorts this out should have a very obvious link. the usb IF driver also sucks badly. On my mac i use aggregated devices and I can add it but it doesn't show up properly only as the zoom driver and this is not like any interface I've used before all my use interfaces be it behringer my 32 audio interface on my roland fantom and 3 others I've used work perfectly in aggregated devices. It sometimes get noisey as and restarting the live track fixes it , funny on your site it says firmware version 1.2 x is the latest to download but mine came with 1.30 and there's no info on 1.30 telling me what's changed and allowing me to download it if it gets corrupted. Im really impressed in a lot of ways but also feel somethings are just unprofessional and not finished properly.

Hopefully a firmware update might add MS monitoring, which should be simple to achieve. The device will record an MS pair as it is, but playback and monitoring will sound odd until the recording is processed in a DAW later. Zoom are great supporters of the MS format with their various MS mics and the Mictrak M3 recorder, so I'm sure they will extend MS playback monitoring to this device before long.

It does not have physical volume dials for mic levels simultaneously. It will require a 1/8in stereo-breakout cable with female jacks. When using it as an i/o interface, does it enable adjustable direct monitoring?

Can you record audio over USB from a tablet or smartphone into the Zoom? My guess is no as it can’t be done with H6, OG or Essentials. Zoom, if you are reading this, would be a great feature to have if possible.
