i finally watched this film. i thought it was amazing, but it had an awful ending. i loved when they did Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered. (one of my favorite songs by Ella Fitzgerald) . i hated the fact that Arthur openly admitted that there was no joker and that it was all an act. i truly believed he was sick and needed help (not the death penalty) . the ending really sucked when he finally got stabbed just before his "visitor" showed up to see him as he made it back to the jail after the trials. i'm assuming the visitor was Harley, but i guess we'll never know as he got stabbed by a random guy trying to tell him a joke and finally stabbed him in the stomach and laughing about it. R.I.P. to this film </3 .

I agree. I thought he was mentally ill based on what went on in the first film. I thought Lady Gaga was good as Harley. It was a disappointment for me. I feel like it took too long to get the sequel done and even then it was not good.

Thanks for leaving a comment. Yeah the sketch show was a US based show that was broadcast live. As a matter of fact the show is still done live. I think it's the only non-new show that still like that. But basically the old shows would satirize politics commercials and had what we call underground humor. I feel like lately it's gotten sillier and it's not as good as it used to be.

When Covid/lockdowns messed up the 🌎in England we all had ‘way too much time on our hands’ I spent some time starting with the earlier films like Hell Drivers in 1957 watching videos ‘behind the scenes’ THE HILL outside of BOND was his best. He got on great with LUMET (again in The Anderson Tapes). My late father did his 2 year stint in the British Army from September 1952 - September 1954 out in Libya based in Benghazi My father told me when I was old enough about that time and there were some real ‘characters’ that he met like the MO/STAFF SERGEANT, Commanding Officers etc And watching this film several times over the past 4 years it shows a ‘mixed bag’ of roles. From the weak to the ‘bully boy’ type And there were officers who were like Norman Bird who really didn’t want to know what was going on And Ossie Davis - outstanding 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🙏🙏🙏🙏👍 👍 ❤️❤️😃😃

I will admit it has derivative moments. Bit from the last act remind me of Scorsese's Kings of Comedy with Robert DiNero. I think why I liked it was it was timely when it came out. I have mixed feelings about this version on one hand its beautifully shot and the costumes are wonderfull to look at the songs composed by John Barry and Don Black are delight to listen to the cast are in their a game with one exception but i will get to that him in a minute Flora Robson Robert Helpmann Peter Sellers Dudley Moore Fiona Fullerton Spike Milligan Michael Crawford Roy Kinnear and Peter Bull are all wonderfully cast in their roles especially Fiona Fullerton she along with Natalie Gregory and Tina Majorino are the definitive Alice however on the other hand there are moments where it drags it feels like a stageshow being filmed rather the movie which is sad because there like i have earlier beautifully shot scenes while i have praised the songs earlier i have to admit the original songs written for this movie are a highlight and are earworms the songs that uses Carrolls poems are not dont get me wrong i love the poems and in any other version they are a delight to listen to like in the 1999 version in which it contains my favorite version of Beautiful Soup but here they sound drull like it was a funeral dirge and for last and least the actor who was the exception in this wonderfully cast movie Sir Michael Hordern as the Mock Turtle dont get me wrong i love Sir Michael Hordern he is one of my favorite actors i used to watch the 1951 version of A Christmas Carol where he played the ghost of Jacob Marley he is in my mind along with John Huston are the definitive Gandalf but i think he was miscast here his scenes are just rushed so quickley it feels like he was barely in the movie and his actual performance as the Mock Turtle his voice for instance maybe it was his idea or the directors but the voice he uses for the character its annoying like i get the idea behind it the Mock Turtle just come off from sobbing but feels forced at the times especially when he is singing the lobster quadrille with Spike Milligan and Fiona Fullerton and before you say anything i have nothing against Sir Michael Hordern singing i think he has a wonderfull singing voice if you dont believe me go watch Mr Quilp from 1975 he is one of the highlights of that production along with Anthony Newley and David Warner but back to his performance here like i have said earlier this one of those roles where think he is miscast if i was directing this movie i would cast him as the King of Hearts because thats the role i think he will be great in had he played the role overall like i have said earlier i have mixed feelings about this movie on the one hand its great and on the other well i will say this you have Sir Michael Hordern in your production and you miscast him in basically a cameo role
@RandBreviews
@RandBreviews 2 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching and commenting. I am also mixed on this as you saw from the video. On the one hand, the cast is great. The special effects especially the growing and shrinking is amazing. I don't think anyone is miscast. But the movie drags, I feel like the songs are forgettable, and Willliam Sterling who was a TV Director doesn't have the skills to make the film cinematic. If you watch early British TV like early Doctor Who it was like watching live TV or a play. That could explain the pacing and why it has a bland look to it. I suspect the studio hired him because TV directors were cheaper to hire than film. Definitive Allice? For me, Charlotte Henry from the 1933 version is the definitive Alice. But Fiona Fullerton, despite being older would also be a pick for definitive. Maybe the 1951 cartoon as well.

@@AliTetik-y7t I think this was my favorite version of The mad tea party. I feel like the three actors brought their a-game. Another issue I had with this version it seems like every 10 minutes there was a song and I felt like it stopped the movie sometimes. There's the scene where Alice Grows in the white rabbit's house and the white rabbit is asking for I think it was Pat the guinea pig. Pat sings a song about digging for apples and then there's dialogue and then some more singing and dialogue. I also feel like they didn't need the tweedle brothers. They were from the through the looking Glass book not Alice in wonderland. I guess we can agree that this movie had its pros and cons. Some good ideas great cats but as you said the director didn't bring his a game. This movie boasted having a fantastic cinematographer and makeup artist and a distinguished cast.

For me the best version is the 1933 version. It is close to the books. There is another faithful adaptation from 1972 from Britain. One of the great mysteries of English history is why did Becket's personality seemingly change overnight once he became Archbishop? One theory as hinted in the film is Becket wanted revenge on Henry for taking his woman. Another is Henry spent a lot of his reign in what is now France with Becket running England for him. Rumour had it that Becket was a very different character away from Henry's eyes. Eleanor was very suspicious of him. Maybe he hated Henry all along and let his supreme power once head of the church of England engulf him.

A wonderful film. I saw both a stage version (starring Charlton Heston) and this film - and you are right: Zinnemann makes the drama beautifully cinematic. Scofield's performance is wonderfully memorable - and so many good actors are at work. The theme of so much of Zinnemann's work, standing for what is right in the face of common indifference to it, is as relevant now as ever.

Yes. It has its moments but I found it too random and I always felt the director Norman McLeod to be a "point and shoot" director. If you look at his other movies he did with W.C. Fields and Danny Kaye it is like he points the camera at the talent and tell them "Just do your stuff" without any guidance. I feel Animal Crackers is my favorite of the first Five even if the film is a bit static. I think that is why when they move to MGM the head of production wanted the films to have more structure and a plot and not randomness. Animal Crackers I think is a good balance of plot, comedy, musical numbers and a romantic couple not overbearing the film.

@@RandBreviews Thank You for your comment. Yeah. I'd rank Animal Crackers as my 2nd Favorite (along with A Night At The Opera), after Duck Soup, given that Zeppo is very funny in it & one-ups Groucho in the Take A Letter scene. Let me know what you think

I liked the movie, surprised no ones done a "reaction video" to this movie... we'll see.

Hi Rob, didn't see your video come up as I was on my other channel icon thingy. Good to see your review. Never heard of this film or character, so I'm in the dark, but will take your word on it. My knowledge of super hero movies is minimal anyways. Good to see you back, take it easy Rob.

Nice to see you too. Yea, Sony has been making movies with Spiderman characters with mixed results. Venom was decent but Carnage an Morbius were not good and this one I had no hope for. Kraven the Hunter is coming next.

@@RandBreviews Yes I've noticed they have seen mixed results. Have u seen any oldies recently or have u been too busy. Don't know if I ever mentioned that you're channel was my inspiration to start making videos. Started another channel which is doing ok. Anyway cheers for now Rob.

I watched some movies earlier this year from producer Basil Dearing called Saphire, Leagure of Gentlemen and Victim but have not had time to do a review yet. Hope to do some soon. I am glad I have been a positive influence on your video making. I also started another youtube channel which also is doing ok. But when you are starting out in a competitive social media world, it takes time. www.youtube.com/@Spontaneousskitsandreviews

Sorry Rob was off-line last week and a bit. Not heard of Saphire but yes other two. Yep, sounds interesting. Yes I prob wouldn't have got involved if I hadn't come across your channel...think it was Sherlock Holmes review, first video I watched. So thanks for the inspiration. Checked out your new channel, nice, 😎👍. It takes time to get some momentum for sure. Good luck with the new project. Take it easy, cheers Rob.@@RandBreviews

damn, that sucks this movie didn't do so well in the box office. i saw trailers for it and thought i might give it a shot if i do happen to go see it in theaters, but now i'm more against watching it lol. this movie review says it all. my opinion is i'm sticking with what ur saying Rob lol. but who knows, maybe i'll catch it some time in the future and think otherwise. Nice movie review :D .

Thanks for watching. Yeah I felt like I've been through worse movie going experiences and this wasn't one of them. It's got some good ideas but I feel like the editing and the direction and some of the acting was inconsistent. Maybe down the line when it hits the streaming or a DVD release it might be worth checking out at home.

@@RandBreviews I've been doing good. I had a nice time recently visiting the Phil Silvers museum. I'm planning on visiting the Laurel and Hardy museum in April, I'm looking forward to that for sure.

@@RandBreviews It was a really nice museum, the Laurel and Hardy museum I'm going to looks nice as well. The one I'm going to is in Ulverston which is where Stan Laurel was born, I believe there is another Laurel and Hardy museum in America where Oliver Hardy was born.
