I grew facial hair 25 years ago, end of the 90's, and in the UK I stuck out like a sore thumb. Everyone was clean cut, and I would get a lot of flak over it, mostly people thinking I was French (the irony is I moved to France years later). Thankfully, now so many men have facial hair, I can totally blend in. :)
