When i first started Dawntrail I was like, My Character looks off, don't know why. Was like a solid 5 hours in before i was like. Oh ya, The graphics up date.

The main issue is the brightness on models. It seems like now they can't cast shadows on faces or characters nearly as effectively, which is a huge downgrade. It's nice to see REAL SHADOWS appear in interiors though, and materials, especially metals, look way better. But the scene at 15:00 is a great example of how the overall brightness of the update ruins some scenes.

The graphical update was basicially a lie everything is still pixelated blurry and look old, all they did was baicially use a resahde filter.

The lighting and shadows do a ton of heavy lifting to make the game look a ton better

Most of the old cutscenes looked better, but I think it is mostly due to the fact that they made them at the time with the limitations they had Any changes to the game engine will fuck up the cutscenes How ever the general game does look much better and brighter now

People are only talking about the lighting but no one is talking about how much stronger the expression work is. Compared to the new faces, the old ones look more like gmod

you know what i think about this "upgrade", someone at square enix shook hands with NVIDIA and forced it to happen for some reason, i do like the changes to the facial animation thoug thats gonna pay off its a misguided ploy the sell graphics cards, its SE we are talking here i wouldnt put it past them, but hey the game looks pretty in the new areas i guess

The details are great and there is proper shadowing, but the characters can look overly too bright in other scenes. It's hard to pick which one looks better solely from this whole sequence alone, though i do slightly prefer the new graphics.

Do more of these! Especially from more recent expansions

Do the ff14 trailers the expansions ever live upto itself in the real game? As i played ff11 for 3 years, my favorite game ever, i played ff14 in 2014 for a few weeks but i just didn't like it with it's over the top tables on the screen and magic stuff and camera being far away during group battles, i miss the simple romanticness of being a real warrior needing to team up in ffxi having a real adventure with people around the world instead of the solo ff14 but ever since i stopped playing i watched the expansions trailers and are blown away by them, heavensward and all tbe others, is the game like the trailers thst blow me away and it gets better and like those trailers after the little weeks i played? If so if it gets like the trailers i might come back.

The lighting works great for all the parts that should be shiny, like the gold detailing on the walls in some parts of the palace, but wow does it make the characters look worse.

im so glad i get to relive my ARR ptsd in high quality. such fun times being framed for the murder of one of my best friends and watching everything fall apart around me, i bet the wol has nightmares of that time

i really dont see what people are complaining about. You can see the differences between old and new yes it looks brighter but partly because they updated the color pallete to be more cibrant and less dark you can also see the characters are much smoother and less blocky in mannerisms and expressions its subtle differences. To be able to do this without just selling a whole nother "new" game like many have done when they do a remaster of a game and just update its graphics.

Not sure what I think about the new lightning, it kind of ruins the tone of the moment at certain moments.

I know that this is a comparison between pre-DT and post-DT cutscenes. But can we just take a moment to appreciate Ilberd's speech at 16:10. This is SUCH a good speech with such a spectacular delivery! Thanks for reminding me of it.

Ohh I bet this scene must look great. It was some of the best animations of ARR as is.

My first time hearing the English dub for this scene... Oh my... did they pay 5 bucks for people working in a soup kitchen to do the voices? This is beyond goofy anime fandub level.

Honestly, it isn't that big of an improvement lol. All they did was sharpen edges and add some better "material" affects, like shines to metals and glass etc.

Part of me misses the distinct tufts and strands of hair in the old graphics. Everything looks way too smoothed out and lacks any character that the old version did. The lighting is much better, but at the cost of some of the actual stylization of some things, I don't think it was worth it.

a few of the older cutscenes need a little re adjusting I think, some of them feel a little worse without the heavier shadows, but overall definitely a net positive

the lighting is so much better now, it's not just a smudge of color mixing with eachother, you can see emotion and face clearly now. some of the scene lose or gain more emotion depending on the version, but the new one make it easier to see what's going on. old you can't see shit lol. but the lighting being this high in some scene dont make sense, probably an oversight from the team with the new lighting, jsut like in housing right now.

Dear god this update ruins the atmosphere of the cutscenes. Of all them; you do not want the massacre at the wall to be lit up like this.

This isn't a criticism of your video at all but it's crazy how much quality the video compression takes out of FFXIV's graphics update. I kind of feel bad for Square-Enix, it's a hard thing to showcase without actually running the game. The upgrade here looks much less impressive than it does in game.

Illberd was a top tier villain.

Graphical update aside, I miss old ffxiv narrative. People getting cut in half, losing a limb, sacrificing themselves and so on.

10:31 hurts, the face is much more detailed in the old version, this feels like FFX Remaster all over again.

Honestly, I wish the lighting was darker in some cases.

The red lighting on Raubahn is better in the original imo. But some shots do look better. Lolorito at 5:35 for example is perfectly lit for an accusation like that.

Also, please keep in mind the textures in old areas HAVE NOT been updated yet. You'll want to redo this video once the ARR areas have been given updated textures.
