I think G5 is really the highest note you can truly get to resonate on trombone, everything after that is just your lips doing all the work

There's a thing I read about trumpet where after somewhere around high g, the notes are not determined by the valves much, but rather the backbore and lead pipe coupled together. Credits to Nick Drozdoff... I think this idea is similar to what you mean.
