This is a great video thank you for sharing, unfortunately I got a message "You cannot use a Simulation Data sensor for an Optimization Design Study with a licence of SOLIDWORKS Premium" 😞 This is probably not the case now but I stopped paying maintenance at SW 2017

Damien. Awsome video! I'm trying to do this exact thing with survey data from my Trimble Catalyst device. It's not working. I can get all the points (127 points) uploaded from the txt file into Solidworks, but it strings them out into a long skinny line. What am I doing wrong? Is this error on Solidworks or Trimble data? I would greatly appreciate a bit of help on this. If you could, email me at [email protected]

If you draw a line in the sketch with a dimension before inserting sketch picture then you can drag the corner of the picture to scale. Alternatively there is a scale tool built in in later versions of SW

That was cool, and I was wondering how did you saved a high quality video, as I saw the animation was a little frezzing but at the windows media playig it was playing normally! Time ago I was with the need find a way to save a high resolution video but I wasnt able to do it, but could you help with a hint for example a video, a book or a theme to look for it in the internet, because i havent found anything yet! Thanks in advance.

It says that the sketch can't be moved because its fully defined. If I suppress the links, it just rotates the base as well...

How does the frequency work when you set to oscillation and what does the 0.1Hz mean? I mean its 5 seconds one way, not 0.1... Thanks though, great work!
@phitsf5475
@phitsf5475 6 жыл бұрын
Frequency (Hertz) is oscillations per second. 1 Hz is 1 oscillation per 1 second. 1 oscillation per 5 seconds will give you a frequency of 0.2 Hz

Hi Dominic, yes it was done in mm, there is a size limit of +/-500m from the origin, so you have to work within this limit, it also lets you have less surface patches with as smaller file, so it is a bit quicker but less accurate scaled down. From 2016 scan to 3D is included in professional.
@MachinistDom
@MachinistDom 8 жыл бұрын
Really nice workflow Damien. Point to not, the Scan to 3D add in is only available in Solidworks Premium I think. Did you scale the model down to improve performance? I noticed the units were set to mm. Would it make a difference if the units were in metres?

Damien, this is a great tutorial which really helped me understand how to animate some complicated mechanisms. it has been immensely helpful in explaining difficult device concepts. A harder example i'm having trouble with: If I have a similar expanding mechanism, but would like to be able to wrap a membrane around it that stretches as the internal struts are bent out. Picture the device you've created with a thin rubber tube connecting the two red bases and getting stretched out in the middle as the hex bars bow out... Is that possible to do within solidworks animation?
