awesome , I made a 3D model of the M1A2 Abrams , ans I was stagnated when I reached the assembly of chain , this video will lead me to make it , thanks a lot & keep doing the good work.

Hi Damien. Just followed this tutorial. I am designing a custom bike just to top up my SolidWorks skills.

The Alignment method allows you to align it either to the curve or to the seed for 2d curve driven patterns. If you have a 3d curve then you can use the face normal when selecting the align to seed. For an example of this see my spiral stair tutorial.

Thanks for the great video. But can you please upload a video of how you do the assembly for the for Link? Because I dont know how to have a line sketch :(

nice tutorial my chain links are not staying on the curve even with tangent middle to curve, parrell and parrell to surface mates?

How can I change my normal direction when I want to use curve driven pattern?

Still I can not have the normal in the direction that I want. I dont know why it is up or downward! plus.google.com/u/0/photos/yourphotos?pid=6040206358830275922&oid=105256858490108019339&authkey=CMin5t_mkuuFew

The sigma represents the equations, this is used to ensure that the total length is controlled so it is equally divisible by the pitch of the chain.

does the curve that the chain links are snapped to need to be a spline? very confused why chain links do not follow the assembly belt lines
@dlmurphynz10 жыл бұрын
No, but does have to be tangent, also if you have multiple segments you need to select the sketch from your tree not from the graphics area.

hello, could you please tell me how you found the arc length, that length is giving me problems.

Is you model available for download in SolidWorks 2012?

Hi there, I'm trying though I fail at making the first scene where you actualy start, so my question is can you explain that bit or post your file of that somewhere? that would be great thanks

Nice job but i didn't understand why the sigma is used on your sketch

I did the chain as a multibody and animated it. "Animated chain in SolidWorks"

none of these methods seem to be perfect, the offset around the curve is always wrong... it measures curve length not chordal length as a chain naturally does... notice on your smaller sprocket you are .5mm out each hole... Has anyone done this where its perfect with the use of one pattern, obviously you could turn it into 4 patterns or something.. seems solid works has only got it nailed for belts... what a tragedy for the perfectionist !!! :) Congrats on the closest Ive seen to perfect though!!

Succinct explanation right here, you are 100% correct, this has to do with the fact that you are patterning the chain tangent to the midpoint of a line between the center of the two pins, and not patterning based on the pin centers themselves (both) following the curve (which as i understand using this type of method is not possible).

WHY DOES THE FIRST BODY PATTERN APPEAR TO BE TWICE THE LENGTH OF THE SPACING? CAN ANYBODY SOLVE THIS! And like others on the comment section, my second chain part does not correctly follow the path of the sketch. TOO MUCH WASTED TIME TALKING ABOUT FANCY EQUATIONS.
