Man, really those were the days, when people went to the stadium, listen to running commentary, always as I had mentioned we had super batsmen, super fielders, and super bowlers It was really entertaining, watching these matches ,yes there was no money. But only gentleman game.

It's correct that Eknath Solkar was one of the best Indian close-in fielder of his days. Whenever he was stationed at the forward short leg position, every batsman had to be extremely cautious with his shot. And that too the shot in which the batsman had to play a simple block shot. Practically every batsman of the opposing team grew very apprehensive whenever Solkar stood at forward short leg. So much so that at one time Tony Greig, the tall English batsman, with his long reach always got out due to the catch taken by Solkar of the bowling of the four Indian spinners in B.S. Chandrashekhar, B.S. Bedi, E.A.S.Prasanna and Venkatraghavan. In fact Tony Greig, at one time threatened saying; "One day I shall smash Eknath Solkar's face for him". This was because Greig invariably, always became Solkar's victim. This was Eknath Solkar !

IPL/T-20 formats has ruined Test cricket in recent times. Test cricket is a pure and original format of cricket. It's sad that many people don't encourage Test cricket these days.. English people still have time to savour the beauty of cricket… The purest and toughest form of cricket is test cricket. ODI’S were only invented to curtail the viewing time and T20, though invented in England, was initially thought to provide evening fun than a game. Even in India, T20 is mainly sold as an entertainment package rather than a sport and that has gained popularity

The golden time where tv was just making its appearance and it was a rarity and we poor people were glued to tv set to watch the match at juxtapositioned house. People were generous enough to place the tv right at the entrance of the house for all passers by to watch. Great nostalgia. I was studying in 7th standard at Adambakkam, Chennai corporation school. Thanks .
