The MSFS settings only control draw distance, not density (unless I've forgotten something). As far as I know the only way to adjust the density is to modify the biome JSON files. Which I have done in the past to get things as I want. And I looked at the files on this add-on and the same could be done. But I'm kind of holding on to see if the dev makes a patch with adjustments before I start digging into it myself.

@@Topcat1952 I have had Rex Accuseason forever. I can point out some of what Rex does maybe that can help you. For trees, rex can change the size (although nominally) the amount of trees near towns, the shape of how the tops appear (round or irregular), and can modify the colors of trees. Fall color tours look really great with REX accu. They also have some free weather presets, and a few random area fixes like for instance St. barts Trees (although idk how updated that particular one is. Rex Accuseason also recently added ground textures, which are also really great. I still remember the first time I tried the fall ground textures and to see all the grass dead in the sim (Michigander here) blew my mind because it was always just greeeeen before.

Its really not a difficulty kind of thing, but yes there are a few steps to getting it running. As for the UI, I can't disagree with you on that! I remember talking with him a little about that a year or so ago, my memory is that the UI tool he used to build it just comes with some limitations. I also suspect he doesn't have a lot of experience in UI/UX design. There are a lot of odd decisions in the way he laid it out. But I have a lot of respect for the fact that he grinds through it alone, and learns as he goes. He would for sure benefit by hiring some help. But I suspect he wouldn't do that. On the flip side, there is that other career add-on that has a very slick interface, runs on a subscription model but manages to take that income and achieve nothing particularly better with it. So I guess we pick our poisons...
@r4microds
@r4microds 6 күн бұрын
Thanks for your video, and also recording at a higher bit rate! Made it much clearer to see the difference this add-on makes, and your input was great! I would like to share a developers perspective if I may. The way imposter trees work in 2020 is that a 3D source model had multiple photos taken from it (all the sides, and angles), then cleaned up in image editing, and stitched together onto a sheet of tree sprites. In sim, they are rendered as an object facing the camera view. As you translate and orbit an impostor tree in 2020, they change the sprite to give the illusion of a fuller 3D model, based on the source model but without the computing power required to run multiple shaders (trunk, leaves, and 3D geometry). The main drawback of this method is that up close, we see a shifting / ghosting as the sprites blend states in movement. Its not too bad and much fuller, and believable at altitude compared to the older ways trees were done in sims. What I'm noticing here though... is that some of the new "Orbx HD" trees look almost 'cross-planar', which *was* the old way trees were done in games for performance reasons (think FSX, XP11 era). Essentially, its still a 3D model, but rather than a complex poly count for a trunk, branches, and leaves, its just two rectangular planes that intersect, with 4 triangles total and one shader material to draw. Thing is, the core rendering system in 2020 is still 'imposter' sprite sheet based tree... So this tells me that is possible Orbx's source 3D models may have been their cross-planar HD trees from FSX (or maybe they made new ones) when remaking their "HD" sprite sheet to replace 2020's imposter sheet, rather than using full 3D models of foliage.. I haven't yet purchased this add-on, but visually that's what it looks like.. Less 'full' as a 3D shape, and more 'flat' at various camera angles. IMO, a cheap way out rather than rendering and capturing images from highly detailed 3D source geometry. I could be very wrong about this, but personally feel they look this way. Examples (10:53, 12:40, and 15:17). The higher the camera angle, the more noticeable it seems, almost to where flat 2D sides of a tree or bush is facing the viewer. From what can be seen in the trailers, 2024, is using fully 3D trees up close, and then what looks to be imposter trees at a distance for performance reasons, with the up-close fully 3D models as the source used to create the imposters. Apart from a tiny bit of lighting differences captured in the render, it looks beautifully seamless and difficult to notice the swap from full 3D to imposter. My opinions aside, it is still very commendable to see Orbx release this effort to improve the existing tree sprite sheet, since those original Asobo imposters were all taken at a very low resolution to begin with, thus looked blurry up close. As a result, the product is as advertised. It very much is higher definition trees for MSFS 2020. Just visually not the approach I would have taken to ensure they complied with the way the original trees were captured. Cheers - GotFriends dev Mykrode

Hi kurt. How do i get my managers to refuel AI aircraft? I keep asking on NF discord but nobody answers 😢
@kurtvwSims
@kurtvwSims 9 күн бұрын
I haven't been doing a lot with NF recently, so this might be out-of-date knowledge. My memory is that managers don't fuel planes automatically.. The fuel perk on a manager is a price reduction. So if you have an out and back type job running you still need to make sure they have fuel for that roundtrip. Your pilot will not fly its next leg if they don't have enough fuel, and will wait for you to fill it. Again from memory; but as I recall, this manual step was intentional as Neo doesn't want the program to just run your AI as a fully automatic money printing machine. As I'm sure you can imagine (and maybe even were hoping), if they auto fueled, you could set up a repeating job and go to Las Vegas for a few days and come back to 10s of millions of dollars in your NF bank account having never lifted a finger. That is definitely not what Neo wants his program to be.

When you were talking about the input viewer, I noticed that your left toe brake axis wasn't quite reaching full deflection and that is something that I occasionally get with my pedals. Can you setup a home base at a real airport already in the sim? Can you choose the Terran type for the runway? How about the terminal size & location, etc?
@kurtvwSims
@kurtvwSims Ай бұрын
If you want to operate out of an existing airport, that's already in Neofly, that would be using the Airlines add-on which allows you to set up hubs and such. So you'd create a hub at an airport of your choice. Runways for the Homebase can be Dirt, Grass, Asphalt, or water. With regard to terminal size, you really don't set those up with a terminal per se, it gets a hanger (or cabin in the case of the one you'd use for a seaplane base), and in there you can have an office, maintenance, passenger lounge and so forth. NF doesn't really worry too much about the size of those facilities, as what they are really doing is providing various perks to your operation... Thus, having a larger passenger lounge (at least in the current design) would do anything different. I think the design intent of home bases is that they are typically going to more like a private small field. You can certainly have a huge runway, but I don't think he was thinking you'd build your own major international airport. Good questions, and thanks for watching and asking.

I really like the camera settings you are using thanks to the opentrack software, but that alone wont be enough to have movements in game with some video camera right? I dont understand how the beam eye tracker fits in in all of this. If I buy a video camera and use opentrack software can I have the head movements like you have in the sim? Could you recommend which camera I should look for? What is the best camera for the head tracking purpose? Thanks a lot.
@kurtvwSims
@kurtvwSims 2 ай бұрын
If you're using a webcam, then you need some program that interprets your head/face movements - That is what Beam Eye Tracker is doing. There is another video link in the description for this video that gets into a small bit more detail about that setup, its worth checking out. Beam then talks to OpenTrack to convert everything into a signal that your flightsim can work with. So if you're not using a Tobii, you would instead use a webcam plus Beam, and Opentrack. I don't have any specific recommendation for a webcam, but generally the logitech ones are pretty good, you don't need to worry about the resolution of the camera much, anything above 720p is fine... However the folks at Beam say their software works better with higher framerates, so it might be worth finding a camera that goes 60fps.
@Izmael1310

@@kurtvwSims Thank you for claryfing this. So basically webcam>beam>open track to get these nice movements or tobii tracker>tobii software>open track. I have to admit I have second thoughts about the tobii as you mentioned price is the huge killer, eye tracking is basically unusable so the main selling point goes out of the window with 1/2 price in it. On the other hand I dont have the webcam and I think that some decent one would cost about 60-80 € and tobii on sale is for 237 €. That makes it tobii for 150 € (more or less, still a lot though).

I've found the current "holy grail" for BeamEye Tracker. The guys from Eyeware-Tech recommend the "Elgato Facecam", which is the previous version of the Elgato Facecam series, and this can do 90fps at 720p, which is very good. But Elgato's successor, and which I've purchased recently, is the "Elgato Facecam Mk.2". And this little beast of a webcam can even do 120fps at 720p. My experience in simulators with this setup - Beameye.tracker + Mk.2 - is just awesome. Highly recommended! I did try Opentrack with the tobii back when you had to use FacetrackNoIR as the interface but that was a pain. So to find a tobii interface is now within Opentrack is fabulous news, thank you! (As an aside, I started playing Elite Dangerous again recently and tracking config for that is 100% in the tobii apps which is so much better than the half hearted msfs tobii implementation. Having both given money to SI and BATC, I did get the early access and I would say that Kurt is spot on with: 1.) This is VERY early access, and I believe the same thing as he mentioned about them needing more funding. 2.) It only supports IFR and you are required to have a simbrief login and flight plan on file for it to work (similar to SI) 3.) It does NOT recognize other aircraft in the SIM. Neither talking to them or controlling you around them. 4.) It is rigid to the point to where you can really only fly what you filed. Other things to note: 1.) This is a one time purchase product, unlike SI which is a monthly sub. 2.) There is a premium voice option that is extra $, but it is not required to use. You can use the basic voice models and still get full functionality out of the product. 2A.) IMO, there is not enough of a difference in voice quality to buy the premium voice packs. With that said, the basic voice models are VERY NICE. 3.) What does work, it is 100x better than stock ATC. My final thoughts as of today are: I believe this team will deliver the product as promised. Already having several patches and updates in as many days. You can see the work and improvements already. If you want to be part of helping them move forward, then bust out the $30 and get to flying and provide feedback.

Excellent, your a very good teacher. I have over 800 hours in MSFS, and always like coming back to these exercises.

Thank you! I'm never sure how to present topics like this because there are so many layers of complexity and I just want it to stay entry level. It can be hard to get it right in the sweet spot. Glad you enjoyed it.

This plane is fantastic. Simple enough for beginners and deep enough for veteran. A great flight model, precise. Best overall plane i have. I owned the tbm 850 blacksquare and the cirrus vision jet. The tbm is much more complex, magnificient, a very good failure model, not as good as the comanche. but a bit more tricky to fly. The cirrus is really fun, a great great feeling with its flight model, maybe too simple to operate, no failure, and a few features missing.

Great video and new subscriber. A couple of questions. Do you need both the Beam Eye-Tracker and Open Track software to achieve the results that you are showing in the video if you already have a Tobii, or just Open Track? Are they any changing that you need to make in the Tobii settings in MSFS with using any of these software packages? Thank you in advance.

Thanks for the sub, and for watching! If you already have tobii, you just need opentrack. There is a second video link in the description on this one that has a little more info about that... But basically tell open track that the input is from the Tobii, and output is Freelook 2.0. In that set up you do still need the Tobii Experience software to be running as well as opentrack. If you don't have a tobii, then you can use Beam... So then open track would be set up with the input as Beam and the output as Freelook2.0. When using Tobii with Opentrack, the settings in MSFS for Tobii are ignored. All the settings are done via open track.

Alternatively just use the free NeuralNet input option in OpenTrack. You need to run as an admin for it to appear in the input list. I own a Grass Monkey head tracker which is great, but I just prefer not to have something on my head, and Tobii is far too expensive.

I noticed certain KZbinrs who didn’t care for Tobii and 3 months later were all about it! I own it and didn’t see what they were excited about. Oh yea, they were sponsored

Yep, thats why I brought it all up.. And the Tobii is just one of many products for FS that people are paid to sing about. People need to remember to do their own homework. And remember that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Exactly!!! Tobii's machinery of advertising is humongous. That's the main reason why the end-users have to pay this stupid prices for this mediocre piece of hard- /software.
