Thank you. Glad it helped you! For what its worth, she's less strict than an FAA examiner. I can tell you that. I think it feels a little harder because the NF dev is French (I think) and the phrasing the game uses is written by someone who speaks English as their second language.. So she says things that maybe aren't as precise as her expectations... 'Make a U turn' is definitely not the phrasing I expected, for instance. I think also if she gave you specific altitudes and headings it would help. But I can see why that would be a lot more work to add. Anyhow, now that you know what the game wants, you'll find these much easier. Happy Flying!

​@@kurtvwSims Oh yeah, I'd bet on it! Well, it really wasn't that bad tbh. I failed once for (allegedly) deviating from the course and the second time for the bank angle in the circle. Both things that are easy to get right with a little practice. I think what I was missing was a visual cue or at least a warning when you are about to go off course. Yes, you are absolutely right. Some instructions were pretty imprecise. But thanks to your video I managed everything. Fly safe!

oh ... just so ya know .. i have flown in real life with a friend that is a pilot instructor ... key to a great flight is using the horizon as a gauge to guide your plane ... try not to look down at your dashboard ... only look down to see your air speed and hold that speed using throttle and trim and flaps ... do this and you will grease most landings under 100 fpm ... flying is an art

I agree 100% -- But most of the non-pilot flight sim folks aren't at that level. Some are, don't get me wrong. But in chats I've had over on the NF discord, I get the read that probably less than 15% have the core skills.

Hi Kurt ... i tried your way with using auto pilot to pass qualifications ... didn't go well ... i was flying the P28 Turbo Arrow III out of PHOG ... it all went well til I was told to do a U-turn off the heading of O2 ... turned my heading bug to 200 ... after a few minutes of flying at 3k at a heading of 200 ... I was told i didn't hold my heading ... uggh ... lost my qualification ... no stars ...lmao ... so I re-flied the qualification and went old school ... fly by hand ... trimmed out the plane ... did a touch and go at 72fpm ... did my landing and now i have 2 stars ... moral of the story is ... fly by hand ... trust your flying skills ... better old school than using auto pilot ... guess i just an old dog ...lmao ... nice vid though and thank you

Hey, Jim, thanks for stopping in! Using the autopilot isn't really "My way", in fact I don't do it that way. I did it that way for the video because I believe most of the audience is doing it that way. I wish more people would take the time to learn to fly the plane better, and I'm probably going to do a series of videos touching on those topics. In fact just posted one yesterday, but it was a pretty hasty edit, and not exactly how I wanted to communicate. The AP in the PA28 is pretty limited. If using that plane I would not even bother with it. Sorry it went badly for ya. Like you, I'm also a pilot, although long inactive. And especially in the small birds I personally hand fly the qualifications for the very reasons you mentioned.

After finishing all of the landing challenges and getting an A on 90% of them, -50 was doable but it was close. Got a -49 first try. It was a bad, floating, long landing but if that’s what they base it on whatever

115 fpm is pretty good. I'm surprised you didn't get 3 stars. - EDIT: To get 3 stars you need less than 50 fpm.

My personal opinion is that NF is a little overly strict on the landing vertical speeds. I've mentioned it to the devs in the past, but they like it as it is. The idea is that they want to make it challenging to get three stars, which I understand. It really only becomes a serious limitation on larger planes. I have asked the devs about other ways of determining the landing quality, but there just isn't much available for NF to make the decision available in the MSFS API.

@@kurtvwSims I'm doing the qualification for single engine turboprops, and boy is it obnoxious. Even keeping it at the same altitude is rough. The AP for whatever reason won't turn on, and so I can't use it. The Class A and B weren't bad, but C has been a pain.

Yea, I don't know. I took a TBM 930 up right after my failed qual and AP is working fine. Either a bug, or it was somehow disabled by NF.

@@SymeonPhronema NF doesn't disable the AP... if it wasn't working, either it was a bug, or you had something set wrong and it couldn't do its thing.

When you take a qualification, it rents a plane at the airport specified, if your pilot is at another airport, you'll need to move him to the correct one. That is the most likely reason you're not able to add your pilot to the plane. So look in your hanger and the rental plane for the flight should appear in there, and it will tell you which airport it is at.. Move your pilot to that airfield.

Kurt, I'd like to qualify flying the Caravan, but Neo fly says I need the Black Square Caravan. It's not in my MSFS or the market place, do you know where I can get the appropriate plane?

The only way it knows about the black square version is if you selected it from the list of 3rd party planes found in the settings page (the little sliders icon on the lower left by the shopping cart). The regular default caravan is in all versions of MSFS so Neofly knows about that one, what has happened here is that since NF thinks you have the blacksquare one also, either one could be appearing on the list to buy or rent. Just remove the blacksquare one from the set up page and and then restart NF, after that it should only show the default one.

Michael, I'm an idiot, I just realized you were asking where to buy the BlackSquare add-on.. That can be found at JustFlight.com. I have the BlackSquare Bonanza (used in the Basic IFR video), and love it. I haven't tried the Caravan. There is a weird behavior with the Garmin 530 in the BlackSquare planes where it doesn't properly connect with the autopilot.. The work around is you first load in using a default plane with the 530 (such as the default non-G1000 cessna 172) with the engine already running. Then go back to main menu and get the Blacksquare plane loaded. You end up having to do this only when you first start FS... Its a weird little bug and a bit annoying, but the add-on is great once you're over that little hiccup.

Let me know if you want me to cover a topic - I can't promise I will, I'm not a full time youtuber and my day job eats a lot of my time, but its always good for me to have ideas about what people need to know. The cheat is--- RENT. There is no real downside to renting planes in NF. And there is no reason to own several planes... Planes sell for exactly what you bought them for (so far - this will change in the future). So sell your current owned planes and rent the biggest plane you can operate. This will speed up your income a lot. If you're not flying for a few days, return your rental so you're not paying for it to sit on the ground. And remember, if you crash you lose your deposit, so fly within your means (or backup your profile a lot). If you have the 'Pilots' perk on your account, you can use 1 or 2 of them to make money much faster and when you don't have time to fly yourself. You might even assign one to your personal rented plane when you're not able to fly. Once you have them in to a DC3 or a Caribou, you can easy make money fast. Then when you have enough for the deposit on the KingAir, rent it. Keep your AI Pilots busy and you'll have enough money to outright buy the king air pretty quick.

I own 2 PA28 turbo's ... 2 Beavers ... a cessna 152 and some crappy other plane that Neofly gave me ... i have 3 AI pilots ... made over 250k cash one day ... am averaging 125k a day ... I'll get that king air soon ... thanks for the tips ... seeing I am old ... I going low and slow ... i'll start renting next week as i grow ... played Neofly 3 for a couple of years ... great fun and am glad to have met ya ... Sky's the limit ... God Bless

I am not affiliated with NeoFly directly, I'm just a user like you. If you need support you should pop in on their Discord. your 'A' license starts with 1 star. The only way you'd have more than 1 on that license would be if you took the A test to improve it. If you had it higher than that and it went down, that definitely seems like a bug you'd want to discuss with them.

I've read that if you go to do a qualification and you do worse than your previous rating you will lose stars. Not sure if that's what happened, but that could be it.

Too bad they ruin neofly with this version, neofly3 had a perfect progression steps to had fun and to simulated real life but this version they broke it is just not fun not worth paying for the extras like I did, I pay for them to ruin my fav app lol.

I just started this career and I did 1 mission in cessna 152 and I hate this plane I want to fly my kodiak so I decided to do qualification C I choose tbm 930 but I cannot do this qualification because I cannot assign myself to that plane because I don't have qualification C ....WTF?? how do I get a kodiak qualification?

The qualification mission comes with an airplane to fly the qualification. You have to fly whatever plane its assigning you. So when you go to the airport that the mission is to take place at there will be a C class plane for you there... If you selected a mission that was a kodiak, then thats what it will be. But if you weren't looking and picked a qualification that has a different C class plane, it'll be that. You will be able to put your pilot in the qualification plane. It'll be shown in the Hangar screen in NF. Not sure how you're planning to pay for a Kodiak if you just started. But thats a different problem. Anyhow, for the type of specific question you're asking, the NF discord chat is a big help and you'll usually get answers faster over there.

@@kurtvwSims yeah I didnt know that kodiak rental is so expensive. Anyway yes I choose qualification C they assigned me location and TBM 930. This tbm930 showed up in my hangar and I was trying to put my pilot in it but I can't that's the issuue when I try to get from cessna 152 to that tbm 930 there is no pilot available because it says I have to have qualification C in order to put a pilot in this plane so yeah I paid for qualification $1600 and I cannot do this.

@@Voltomess Sounds like your pilot and your plane are not at the same airport... Go to the NF discord and discuss this with Kolero, he'll get you pointed the right direction... youtube comments doesn't work well for troubleshooting 😉
