This song was written by MISIA after reading the last letter of a kamikaze pilot who committed suicide by flying a bomb-laden plane from Kyushu to his girlfriend and family during the final days of World War II. A song dedicated to female lovers and wives. It's a sad farewell song written and composed with meaning.

The only problem I see with spending more time with Joel and Ellie is that it would feel too much like the first game, and I'm tired of sequels being the same game again...God Of War Ragnorok felt like the first game to me because it was Kratos and his son on an adventure all over again.

that would depend on the writing, which I doubt, if they used the same writers as they did with the first game, it would be just ellie and joel hanging out again. They have a number of issues to work out, on top of the new settlement, etc, I gave some examples in my other comment

I just personally don't love it when it's so obvious/transparent what the creator is trying to force/try to do. Some points I'd add though. You could argue that it was wrong for her to want revenge in the first place, just like it was wrong for Joel to kill her dad; however, Abby's dad was going to take Ellie's life without her consent. Yes, it was for a vaccine, (we're not entirely sure if it would have worked but we can assume it would), but Ellie didn't even have the chance to think about it, she wasn't even consulted about whether or not she consented to having her life be sacrificed. They could have even just asked her, and if she was willing, (which btw I think a lot of people would agree that Ellie might have actualy been completely willing to sacrifice herself for the vaccine, maybe even as a tribute to Riley, which makes all of this very interesting) great, she consented, Joel doesn't get a say because it's her life, and everyone gets a vaccine. But they didn't. So I wouldn't say that Abby's dad was completely innocent either. It would've even been better if let's say that Ellie said no, that they just knocked her out and killed her to get the vaccine anyway; at least they asked. So I think Abby torturing (Joel didn't tortue Abby's dad) Joel slowly, and then killing to seek revenge, which doesn't help anyone, isn't the same and possibly even worse than Joel killing Abby's dad when Abby was going to use Ellie's life without her consent, killing her. Joel * could * have just knocked Abby's dad out, and the other two surgeons (that's optional for the player so we can ignore that), and just taken Ellie out. Also, Ellie was right there, * begging * Abby not to kill Joel, * everyone * could see how much agony Ellie was in, and she did it anyway. I think we could all agree that if Abby was right there begging Joel not to kill her dad, Joel might've gotten a flashback of the soldier killing Joel's daughter Sarah, even though Joel begged, "Please....." I think Joel would have just knocked the doctor out. Abby didn't. She saw Ellie in agony and struck Joel's head with a golf club. Abby also said, "you don't get to rush this", torturing Joel to death for her * own * catharsis, whereas Joel just killed Abby's dead immediately in order to get Ellie out. Also, Joel also saved Abby's life. Abby would have been dead or turned into an infected were it not for Joel. That has to count for something. They could have made some sort of deal that would have actually helped people instead of just revenge for personal selfish catharsis. Like, tying Joel and Tommy up, and demanding a huge amount of resources from Tommy's dam/settlement for Abby's settlement (I forgot what their civilization was called, ex fireflies?) Joel having saved Abby's life, she could have said, "You killed my father. I demand serious and sufficient compensation that will satisfy me. What will it be?" It could've been anything that could have helped Abby's civilization instead of selfish catharsis, and a lot of her own friends would've lived. Yeah, Ellie was wrong to have slipped so far, and to gone so far, but it's because of Abby. So personally I don't see it as black and white as Abby just being the good guy in all of this. I love Laura Bailey too! And it was wrong that she received hate and death threats, and even more wrong that her child received them too. I'm a very casual gamer, I actually don't game much at all, almost all of my gaming is what you see on my account here, but from what I have played, Naughty Dog has and likely will always be my favourite game developer/company. I made some further comments in the 2nd most recent livestream I did, but it's a bit hard to hear.

That's true, I do think that Ellie would've given consent anyway but we never know now right. Yes, she says she would after but in that moment when she's 14, what would she have thought. That's the fun part about this is the "what if", that's what Neil liked about leaving it up to the audience, what they believe the characters thought, leaving it up to interpretation. I really respect how hard they worked on this game and very carefully carving out the story, yes even Joel's death scene was carefully thought out, some people actually don't believe that lol. And no, slowly killing Joel didn't help anything either, but I probably would've done the same thing, or like to think I would, at least kill them immediately. Would I have felt better afterwards? I can't say I would... and I think that's the lesson here, would killing Abby make all of Ellie's problems go away? No, she would only be continuing the cycle of violence. I think it would make her feel worse, knowing she left Lev without anybody, and maybe would even make Lev hunt down Ellie. I don't know though. If you get the reference, it wouldn't make the lambs stop screaming. Letting it all go is the only way, which is hard, but takes time. Easier said than done though. So in the end, I'm glad Ellie didn't kill Abby because I think she finally realized that. Something else though we don't know, did Abby killing Joel make her lambs stop screaming? Or did she also keep having PTSD afterwards, thinking of her dad, and we just didn't get to see it? I don't want to think Abby got over it quickly like all of her problems were solved right after committing that horrible murder on Joel. And yeah I guess I shouldn't say Abby was all good but, I think she was one of the most sound of mind, next to Jessie and Dina to be honest, since Abby wasn't on a whole murder spree, she was only out for one person and that was going to be the end of it. I love talking about this game and seeing the different points of views. And yeahh you were a bit hard to hear in that livestream but it's all good! xD
@kylaia3155

I know this is a late response but yes, I think that was Naughty Dog's trick was to have empathy for your enemies, see both sides of the story. That's why I hate to see people grumble when they have to finish Abby's story because you have to see both sides to get the full picture. Abby is, in my opinion, the "good guy" in this whole story because she only wanted to avenge her dad. I'd want to kill the guy who killed my dad and doomed humanity too! She let Tommy and Ellie live, she could've killed them too and showed mercy to Dina (thanks to Lev but still...) Abby, overall, is my favorite character in the whole game, love Laura Bailey alot lol. Ellie I think ended up being my least favorite unfortunately, I don't like the choices she made throughout, especially leaving Dina to face Abby again. Although, Tommy did pressure her...

Thanks for commenting; I respect your opinion. Yeah like I said it was pretty obvious that that's what they were trying to do, forcing you to empathize and see the point of view of "the enemy". I never spent much time thinking about alternative plot lines after Part 2 came out, I'd actually love to look into some of the fans ideas for the plot of Part 2 waaaaay before Part 2 was even announced, I think that'd be interesting. But since it was brought up in the comments, here are some ideas off the top of my head: I think if you look at the majority of the commentary after the first game, most people thought that Ellie knew Joel was lying when he said "I swear." but that she just accepted it (at least even if only in that moment) because he knew he was doing it to protect her. So I did find it interesting that they went with that she mostly believed him. But maybe some in Tommy's settlement find out that she's immune? Maybe some hate the post apocolypitic world so much they are outraged Joel would deprive the world of a vaccine for the world to recover again. Tommy used to be a Firefly. But he also understands what Joel lost, so he's kind of on the fence. Maybe this splits the settlement, chaos ensues, endangering the settlement towards collapse. Maybe a faction of Tommy's settlement agrees with Abbey, maybe because Joel's personality got on their nerves before with another internal conflict, and betrays the settlement, leaking information to Abby and her crew? Everyone was wondering about Ellie's mom. Where was she this whole time? Maybe she had been through so much shit, and she knows there could be a vaccine, maybe she thinks there could be a way to get it without sacrificing Ellie, or maybe she thinks it may be worth sacrificing Ellie. Who would Ellie trust more, Joel, or her own mom? Who would she be more loyal to, if Ellie's mom goes on a death match with Joel? Maybe whatever Ellie's mom has to say, Joel won't hear it because he cares more about Ellie than anything else, and accidentally kills her. And maybe, upon learning that Joel lied to her this whole time, and him having just killed her mom, Ellie leaves. And they don't talk for years. And maybe in the third game, you play as both Ellie and Joel, separately, and they still aren't speaking for half the game, until Abbey kills Joel. I think they always wanted to expand on the Scars, so that could've been interesting too. This is just off the top of my head. I think that meme that made fun of the haters, (and again, I'm against all those things the haters did), like I said, touched on the point but stepped over it. Not that the only people that were broken were the haters, and vice versa, not that the haters were the only ones that were broken, but I think those broken people waited 7 years to spend more time with Joel and Ellie, in real time, instead of in flash backs. And I think it was a privilege for Troy and Neil to get to do that during those 7 years, but those people weren't. Again, art is subjective, subjective to the individual, so I'm looking to get into any arguments with anyone over this.

but what would you think the kind of plot that would be worth spending THAT many years making the game worth for tho? just senselessly keep killing the infected until what? they run out? joel and ellie live happily ever after in the middle of an apocalypse where making a cure wasnt even an option anymore? where supplies would soon run out and ppl possibly would be more vicious and unforgiving? what kind of concept do you reckon would fit to the continuation of the story and how would it end? i genuinely want to know your version of the plot. Looking through the lens of realism too btw. its easy to say "there are ppl out there that could write a better story and plot" yes, if thats the case, give me the receipt then. link me an alternate universe, another outcome and version of pt.2 that i could review and see if it is, in fact, better than the original tlou pt.2 im not trying to lick neil's ass bcs i dislike him for the fact that he's a zionist. but i just think looking from a creative stand point, i genuinely want to see if there's anyone that's put a better plot out there thats just not some boring basic post-apocalypse stereotypical plot.

I never said "there are ppl out there that could write a better story and plot" . These things are subjective, and I've said, it's fine that people have different opinions. But I definitely don't think what you've suggested are the only alternatives. I also don't think this is worth arguing about. Art is subjective. Subjective to the individual. So every individual has their own take.
