Is this for attaching round reins?
@flyingaoutfitters
@flyingaoutfitters 2 ай бұрын
They can be used for lots of types of reins. I'm not 100% sure, but my guess is that they were traditionally used to connect romel reins to the chains. Today, lots of people connect their reins with snaps, but in the past, these would have been a good way to connect reins in a way where they could also be interchanged. I hope that answers your question.

I'm inspired in part just by the fact that you did this nice work with so few tools. Not many people cut leather with a hunting knife, but I think not many people must be as good as you are with sharpening knifes. The buckle was also a great addition. My son wants to get into leatherwork, but he's worried about the cost of tools. I'm going to direct him to this video.
@flyingaoutfitters
@flyingaoutfitters 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the positive comments, Joel. The reality is that I'm a hobby leathercrafter. However, as I hope to encourage people with this video, even with just a few simple tools, you can get started making things you can use. If you're son is interested, I'd encourage him to keep it simple and not focus on all the tools. Instead, if he focuses on building a solid skill set and knowledge, he will be better in the long run. Then, when he decides he likes it and has saved up some money, he can buy a few tools here and there to do some techniques that will help. Build the skill first, then spend the money and add the technology. At least, that's my 2 cents. Tell him good luck and thanks for checking out the video!

Thanks, DrChattan. I braided it because I had a lazy colt. I didn't want to dull him to my spurs, so I braided this quirt. To help motivate him, I could tap him with it and keep his sides more sensitive to my leg cues. Worked great and I hope to braid more in the future. Thanks for checking it out.

Im still not convinced there wasn't some witch craft or voodoo magic to create that eye. But there are people who can fold fitted sheets so I guess anything is possible. All joking aside that was an awesome video and I'm definitely going to make some leadropes like that! I am wondering how long was your steel rod you were using for measurements?
@flyingaoutfitters
@flyingaoutfitters 2 ай бұрын
haha. I know, it's crazy how it all connects! I think the guy who figured it out had waaay too much time on his hands. As far as the steel, it is actually a little fid I made. It is about 8.5" long, and the biggest thing about it is that it helps you transfer measurements easily. Mine is just some steel rod that I cut and then ground one end to a dull point. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for checking out the channel!
