I had DH come up out of nowhere, one day I woke up and had a rash on both elbows and both knees, only in those places. Upon googling, I kept getting celiac disease as a response. I immediately cut out gluten from that day. A few days later I got into my Dr and she agreed, no more gluten. I had blood work done today to test for celiac so we will see next week but honestly I don’t care what the results say, this rash has scared me away from gluten for life!

My Dr did recommend aloe Vera, I’m paranoid about store bought so I have a plant and I just cut open the leaves and spread it on my rash. It calmed down the rash significantly.

Some experts say 10% of celiac patients can have negative blood test. You r saying 2% . Whats the exact % range ? . It is better to say the range then if there is uncertainity.

I had Villous blunting NOS on my biopsy. They put me on B12 and high level of vitamin D for a short time. My bloodwork showed negative for celiac. I followed a GF diet for a few years and started eating gluten again. My whole body feels achy and inflamed. My Dr suggested it could be gluten. How do I know if I have celiac with that generic diagnosis. Thank you so much.

I just recently got diagnosed with gluten sensitivity. So if a product does NOT include wheat, barley, rye, oats, malt or brewers yeast, BUT doesn’t say gluten free, is it okay to eat?

Don't rely on dapsone either just because your rash isn't visible doesn't mean you aren't messing up your insides :/

yeah, but why can't modern science invent some safe gluten-substitute that will make flaky croissants and soft puff pastry and stretchy tortilla wraps? we have all kinds of advances in materials and in nanoscience, but we can't invent something in food?

Sorry gluten is a serious issue for me. I would be dead if I was still eating it. There are much more going on with people that have celiac than that is admitted. The older you get the more damage one gets as well as gain auto immune issues along with it. I had it all my life and I did not know so yes I got the damage and the issues. I am better off of gluten but not clear. GMO is likely to be an issue as well as other foods. You can't judge by the few words I posted to say what you did.

Doctors are real stupid these days, when on celiac you don't absorb foo nutrients as well if you intake gluten and you didn't know you had it. Thus lack of nutrient absorbtion could cause as a matter of fact, arthritis.

after all the research I've done, I believe it is genetics that play the part in true Celiac disease. The environment as well, since stress and gluten, which is in most foods we eat do play a part, but overall, if you suspect it, genetic testing will give you the correct answer...that's what we had to do with my 22 yo after years of not knowing and suffering....

I don't know if it's because I am getting older that this bothers me now, but they are doing music in the background with people talking over it in all kinds of shows, movie, videos, etc. It's so hard for me to hear also Catherine. It's so irritating I want to scream what were they thinking are they trying to say that the information is so boring lets add music to draw their attention in? Thanks for the information though, just in the future can you cut off the music when someone talks please?

True, but Celiac Disease is still the best autoimmune disease to have. I fight with not eating gluten on a daily basis. Its really really hard. I can wait 5 years for a cure. Of course there is no guarantee, but I am glad people are working on it.

It was. It certainly helps to know someone else goes through this, too. No one is interested in doing the biopsy to verify and I can't afford the out-of-pocket costs of genetic testing to find the DQ2 or DQ8. No one's insurance will cover that. I doubt the insurance industry ever will, since they're doing everything they can to not have to cover other basic stuff, like testing for vitamin D deficiency, which also comes with the territory.

@iCanHazTwentyLetters I do have a complicated mix, but I do have IBS. One of those things that conventional medicine and natural medicine view differently. The only thing that they agree on is that food sensitivities aggravate it. I have problems with the entire GI tract being dysfunctional. From what I understand, it isn't unheard of for people with Celiac to also have reflux. I have chronic migraines and Dyshydrotic eczema, and Fibromyalgia. And, that's the short list.

@iCanHazTwentyLetters Ordering Chinese food won't work when I'm sick enough to be hospitalized. I have to watch out for things like MSG and other foods that bother me, too. But, I do have the digestive issues you mentioned and have already done the necessary dietary changes. The problem comes from stubborn hospital staff who believe gluten free diets for anyone who doesn't have an official Celiac diagnosis is just following a food fad. They are dismissive and unresponsive and uncaring.
@fbm2yt1
@fbm2yt1 12 жыл бұрын
@iCanHazTwentyLetters Actually, my brother also has gluten intolerance. I definitely don't tolerate gluten. I probably have the Candida, too, but conventional medicine won't go near that unless you're dying from it in a hospital bed. I have Dyshidrosis, but mine was all the little blisters running together and causing giant blisters that became giant holes. When I stopped eating gluten, the itch I couldn't reach and the blisters stopped appearing. This isn't DH, but it is affected by gluten
@fbm2yt1
@fbm2yt1 12 жыл бұрын
@iCanHazTwentyLetters You see, the reason I want something definite is if I'm ever hospitalized again, I don't want to be dismissed again like I was last time. I pretty much was forced to eat all sorts of things that I really don't tolerate well. I usually don't have the classic diarrhea, so the hospital staff doesn't believe me. Celiac is often misdiagnosed as IBS, but even IBS can be affected by gluten. Natural medicine considers IBS as a less severe form of Celiac.
@fbm2yt1
@fbm2yt1 12 жыл бұрын
@iCanHazTwentyLetters So, since I have symptoms and I have first degree relatives who are gluten intolerant and Celiac, I just wonder if I might be a gene carrier. In fact, since no one in my own group of doctors will go beyond the blood tests for Celiac, like, say, the small intestine biopsy and/or the fecal occult test, I'm considering saving enough money to get the gene test done. Most of my reg doctors do agree that I am at I don't tolerate gluten. My eczema flares up if I eat gluten.
@fbm2yt1
@fbm2yt1 12 жыл бұрын
@iCanHazTwentyLetters Thank you. My problem is that I am certain that I do have Celiac, because I have symptoms but I test negative. I'm wondering if I am also a carrier because my brother's son tested positive for Celiac, so he is definitely 100% gluten free. Well, my brother and his daughter tested for gluten intolerance, and I think his wife is also gluten intolerant. Anyway, at least for the one with Celiac there isn't a huge family squabble about what is gluten free and what isn't.
