Are you using flatwounds?

You are wrong. Cb is not the 6th degree. The key is Gb/F#. The chord progression is emphasizing the Lydian mood of the tonality. The bridge brings it back to the root key signature tonality. And, your chords on the first pass of the bridge starting on bar 3 are wrong. Yo, get it together.

The bass is not 'walking' in the traditional sense, its playing 'hop-scotch'

the passing chords suggested are a bit far off from the original if you ask me.....sounds a bit too cryptic. Better choose some chords from giant steps and insert them as passing chords.....they are weirdly related

Thank you a lot!Exactly what I was looking for :) Please more Thundercat, there is a track that he collaborated with Flying Lotus(never catch me) where he played an amazing bass solo, would love to understand more what's going on in that solo, more in term of harmony and the tought process behind his line, there is some tab out here but not very much theoretical examination like you did in this video, lot to learn,Thank you so much! All the best :)

what did you use for Kyiv? to get the bass sounding like that

For me, my biggest personal lesson from Jamerson was let the snare on beat 2 breathe. ‘Darling Dear’ is a great example of this, it’s almost like the bass is anchored around giving the snare space. Beat 4 he is less worried about as it often has lead in or tied notes to the next beat 1. Jamerson doesn’t always stick to this “rule” as he might choose to play a long fill right over the snare, but the next measure he will always give the snare space again. I’ve tried applying this approach to simpler rock bassline and it adds a great propulsive groove to any tune. Thanks for the great video!!!

He always handcuffed himself to a thing . As free as he played he always had an anchor to keep himself stable. In this song (and a few others) his anchor is the double note at the beginning of the measure.

are these all in standard tuning? Mimicking your hand placements on guitar is getting me nowhere and I’ve had to play them by ear with completely different placements. Amazing video.
