That really sucks. I had a severe grade 1 mcl in January. It was in my left knee as well. I had a player fall on me and heard a pop on my knee. It sucked. It took about 2 months before I was playing again. Make sure to start physio as soon as possible. Get an mri scheduled. My mri took a while to get booked and I didn’t get it until I was fully healed. During my physio and healing I got nhl sense arena to help with staying sharp. I really liked the software and I met some amazing goalie friends. Wishing you all the best! Heal up and I look forward to your new videos once you can play again.

Thanks for sharing. I actually just got the Sense Arena at the start of the month but hadn't been able to use it much due to being in and out of illness. Was looking forward to using it over my break more but now I need to wait until the knee has recovered more.

You can use it without movement. There are some hand eye reaction programs. When I was recovering, there were a few I played when I was just sitting on a chair. It was fun, and I still felt like I was improving.

I suffered probably the exact same MCL injury about 15 months ago. It happened in the first period and played the game to final whistle after that with some pain. Well, obviosly then I didnt play after that in 3-4 months at all. Now after 15 months it starts to feel like its almost the same than before the accident. Still get some light feelings on my knee here and there, but damn it's a long recovery.

That sucks dude. I have torn both the right and left MCL. I basically cut down my playing to once a week if that ( I am much older) but I decided I want to play other sports and workout as much as hockey, and it will come down to longevity. Just remember to not rush back, you gotta think l the future post hockey. Good luck with the healing and try to enjoy the holidays.

Played the last 10 minutes with a torn MCL, only in hockey! You are awesome my friend and I’ll miss the content. I worry about this as I am 53 and I don’t bend the way I used to but still think I can. My biggest piece of advice is when you think you are ready, wait a bit longer. Don’t push it, take your time. I dealt with a pulled groin for a half a year because I kept coming back too early.

Maz, what a outstanding performance. The opponent was clearly Elite level, was your team? Seemed like some serious defensive lapses, but if your making Elites miss the net, you didn't give them anything to shoot at.

Those double digit goals are always disheartening even if it is a shinny. Good game though, I blame the ref. If I could give some advice, update your logo there as you are in CCM pads but have clearly been wearing Brians for a couple of years. It will help your game tremendously!

Also, I've gotta say ... I play as a sub in O40, B and C leagues. I've lost my last 5 games. Those have all been teams lower in the standings, and I've been making killer saves. I've had a ton of high-percentage chances against me and saved plenty of them. I've also give up fluky goals like deflections off my own teammates. Those are the positives I've been taking away from it all, even though it's been awhile since my last W.
@CaptainsCrease
@CaptainsCrease 5 ай бұрын
I feel you man. Both my regular teams in my last full season in Canada were dumpster fires. I had more wins doing rent-a-goalie for random teams on any given week than those two put together. I missed 10 games on both teams due to injuries during that season, both of them went 0-10 in that span. It's great to have accountability and be able to look at your own performance objectively. It's also easy to get sucked into a downward spiral of blaming yourself for everything and playing worse and worse as a result. My goalie coach watched my highlights and told me I was blaming myself for poor defensive positioning and being forced to do way too much. It immediately made me do a complete 180 and I ended up having a great playoff run on both squads, including eliminating the #1 seed on one of them. Trust yourself, worry only about what you can control, and always keep improving.

I have had similar issues with sometimes not having fun with goalie. And honestly I attribute a lot of it to filming my games. I'm not smooth and buttery like you are so when I go back and look at the goals scored on me and even some of the saves they all appear awkward and it's clear I am no where being close to being good and TBH it is a bit embarrassing. The rest of it is the feeling of letting the team down. First round of the play offs this week up 2-0 with 7 minutes left and I let in a shot I should have had (got lost in black socks). They tied with 6.6 seconds left, lost 2 minutes into OT with a top cheese rip over the glove hand. I keep at it though and even keep filming because it is a learning thing for me. The video provides insights I can learn from and while embarrassing does help. Nobody wants to be the reason your team loses and as a goalie sometimes that is me. At your level a "Stinker" that you let in would probably be the best shot I've seen all season. That being said I still enjoy the position enough to keep at it. I even enjoy editing the videos sometimes. I poke a little fun at my team while doing so. Make fun of myself. Try to keep a sense of humor about it. As to getting better, I will need to measure it in very small increments. I concentrate on one thing at time and hope to make the improvement but lets face it, I am 53 and my flare isn't going to get better. When I turned 50 I realize I couldn't keep smoking and playing hockey, so I quit smoking. I have gained 50 pounds on top of the 10 pounds of C19 weight I had so the biggest thing I could do to help the game would be to drop 60 pounds but having struggled with a eating disorder previously (At 6'2" I don't look good at 160 pounds especially when I am naturally 190-200) so I have to be real careful. 4:42 I do that as well, with my mobility I would rather catch that on the way out and not have to dig it out of the net a second later. 13:30 I can't shut up when I am on the ice. I compensate for horrible play with talking funny trash. You need to turn that into a tag line "Catch you later, like a puck" or "Like that puck, I'll catch later" Everybody has to have a gimmick right? Sorry for the wall of text, also do you play out ever? Sometimes that helps me appreciate the position more.

We all start somewhere, maybe you'll feel better if you see footage of me from 2010 😂 I did actually skate out once last spring, albeit with goalie skates and just a helmet and gloves. I have a really bad habit of diving in front of shots with no protective gear so I think I'll save it for when I'm done with goaltending for good. This summer I played competitive soccer and floorball, as a goalie and player in both.
