A week later, the Packers got to play the spoiler, when they downed Chicago in the regular-season finale and kept the Bears from winning the Central Division title.

The Colts were hot stuff in the league that year winning the NFL championship only to get embarrassed by the Jets in the Super Bowl. In fact, I was up in Green Bay last week to see the Packers take on the Colts, only it was the Indianapolis Colts, not the Baltimore Colts, and the Pack won that game.

'83 obviously was a watershed year in the NFL. Things fully went from the common 12-7 type games of the 70s to high octane, rack em up offenses....loved it. Super entertaining.

I was at the game with my father. My first NFL game. Rainy, soggy, mess. Great place for a nine year old to experience the relative speed up close, in spite of the rain.

I love seeing these old football games when the men were men the hitting was real and so was the grass and mud and snow in open fields none of this plastic grass or Astro Turf dome stadiums and oh God forbid if you touch the QB the wrong way or tackle a guy the wrong way. None of this high five after every play and pounding your chest the LOOK AT ME and dancing and spiking the ball and WR who are such devas have to think of a new dance step and move when they score a TD

The Packers were a lot of fun to watch, even when they weren't winning, in the late 1970s and early 80s, when Lynn Dickey was healthy. He made them a great offense, along with all the receivers and RB's, that the Packers had.

If only Archie Manning could've played for a good, winning team. If he played for the Oilers in the 1970s, he might be in the Hall of Fame today.

an important aspect of the raiders last drive that was left out...Greg Pruitt's big kickoff return gave them great field position for Plunkett to start that final drive.

That's true football the players played unlike today the league has crybabies wanting 60 million dollars that prissy Prescott would have not made it back in the olden days of NFL

I think the NFL should split up the two leagues but today's NFL the AFC would play AFC and NFC would play NFC like in the 1960s the the conference champions would meet in the Superbowl bring back the retro AFLl NFL

This is great! The 49ers were in their second year under Bill Walsh and you could see it was starting to turn around. Same with the Bills who I believe were starting with Chuck Knox..

49ers had their first winning season in '65 since '61. Brodie had a stellar year as QB. Kimbrough rocked anyone coming near him. Parks and Casey, Stickles: caught a lot of balls. Willard and Crow in the backfield. No grass between the 20s at Kezar after the first week of November, which meant if it rained, it was going to be very muddy. Lots of high school games played there, not just 49ers.

I vaguely remember hearing about this on our car radio on the way home from visiting relatives. Today, no one would have attempted that final field goal....they would just run the clock out.

2 very good teams as far as talent, both on offense and defense. Both the Cardinals and Falcons had explosive offenses. Both teams attacked the QB, but did it differently. The Cardinals relied on their front 4 with a lot of stunts and red dogs. The Falcons blitz almost every pass play and a lot of running plays. Good matchup and game.
@FredSchneiderUSA7 күн бұрын
I believe 1982 is the only season when the St. Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Falcons made the NFC Playoffs in the same season. But not because they didn't have good, or at least talented teams at the same time, but because they didn't win enough at the same time. Good game at Atlanta Fulton Stadium.

What if Tampa had won that Bills game? They still would have stunk like pigs, but that defense probably would have gotten two more wins in 1977 just from being freed from 0-26.
