Seiko 5 is their foothold on lower income markets where microbrands can't easily ship to due to taxes or infrastructure.

Plenty of Seiko 5s in the shops here in Japan, and online. I looked at Seiko 5 GMTs in a local shop yesterday; they had all colours.

It is MI-YO-TA. Not MY-OW-DA. Mi as in mini. Yo as in the Southern British pronunciation of yacht. Ta as in the Southern British pronunciation of tough.

Probably this is because this store wants to position itself in a higher tier. In Thailand there are a lot of seiko 5 in every seiko corner.

Before they added the lume plot at 3 for the newer batches, the date window edges kinda seemed more accentuated and a bit slanted. Or maybe it's an optical illusion?

Now priced into the realms of longines and not too far behind pre owned tudors with in house calibres, I'm guessing the way they see it is this is just one line of watches and let's face it it's the best one yet, let's see if we can start to break into the level of the market and that's just good business, people who can out and out afford it will be considering other options but people who can't will probably stretch their budget and let's face it that is the majority of CW's customer base

Henry Archer have just released a "true GMT" based on the Miyota 9075 at a good price. I have one of their Nordso watches and it is great, so this would def be something I am considering

I just had one of my Seikos serviced, a little early IMHO, but it was no cost to me and yes it wound so much smoother, and was regulated at Seiko. It runs amazing. Again Thanks

I felt the same way as you. In the end it was the Grand Seiko SBGY009 for me, which is a really great size and a really great hand-wound movement.

Nice presentation of beautiful watches! The lack of variety in hour markers is surprising. The whole collection is nice but borderline dull. The various dial textures and colors saves the day. The mother of Pearl dial faces are particularly striking. The eco drive technology deserves mention, but it doesn’t excite me. I wish they put as much energy into their mechanical watches. The nature collection is perhaps my favorite segment of this presentation. Very nice.

The 5s/y eco-drive models are not just "budget" versions of the 1s/y 0100 caliber eco-drive models. They have a date complication which is a functional perpetual calendar that accounts for the month as well as leap year automatically. The 0100 caliber eco-drive models don't even have the date complication.

Cool, but would be much more useful with at least approximate prices…

The Citizen watches also have the same if not better zaratsu polishing just like GS . Most of their models also have the proprietary super titanium and the platinum duratect coating ( which makes it basically immune to those micro scratches we usually get from daily wear on the clasp and case , plus it gives the titanium a brighter hue making it look like 316L SS instead of the dull dark titanium hue ) . these features should've been in the video was it's also pretty important but it's alright . The anti reflective coating is easily the best in the world too with a super clear 99% light penetration ARC crystal , this is also a great feature , the crystal looks non existent in most videos and reviews . I've had my eye on a couple of their watches for well over a year now , I consider them to be a much greater value proposition than the Grand Seiko 9F HAQ models cuz the Solar HAQ plus +/- 5 secs per year on the base The Citizen models is just more convenient and superior . Love the AQ4100 series with the 38mm case and those beautiful sharp angular lugs with the polishes bevels !

I feel like the bracelet proportions are off given the size of the watch. Maybe it's a cultural thing.

I have the blue cervo volante and I absolutely adore it! I don't agree on the packaging though. The cervo volante pouch which was delivered with the watch is incredibly nice and I prefer it to all the watch boxes I have from other manufacturers.

I have one and absolutely love it. The size is brilliant for me and reminds me of the quality pieces from the earlier to mid part of the 20th century. It is a beauitul piece.

It is extraordinarily generous of Oris to replace your strap. After all you caused the marks by splashing water on it. As regards the “unboxing experience” you are right it is a super trivial point. But it’s worth noting that Oris is trying to minimise wastage and environmental impact. Hence the smaller cardboard boxes.
