She is elderly. Most likely her eyes aren't as good as they used to be. The driveway was filthy. Most likely dirt filledn in the crack and wasn't visible to her. So when it appeared after being cleaned she thought it was something you caused. You showed her the pictures andvpointed it out. She was probably embarrassed for not seeing it and accusing you falsely.

I mean, as the story is told it doesnt sound like there was really a choice here, you cant force someone to pay for a service mistakenly rendered due to a misunderstanding. A casual confirmation of identity and cursory review of the agreed upon price would have quickly brought the mistake to light. Small claims court would 100% throw this out and adminish him to do due diligence in the future. Just a strange way to phrase the whole situation.
