So I went to the mental hospital for doing something stupid when I was 15. I’m 18 now and am doing very well in life and want to join the army but am afraid they will decline me because of my past medical records. Is there anything I can do or any paperwork I can get to make it so I can join?

I have done this and it’s not difficult at all. Once you understand what to do.. Step one, take a deep breath. Stop two, slowly let the air outta your lungs. This way you’ll sink. Step three, once all your air is exhaled. You’ll find yourself at the bottom once more. Stet four, kick as hard as you can, upward. And again take another deep breath. Then repeat. It’s 98% mental and 2% physical.. I didn’t even need to learn this at BUDS either. I learned this within 10 minutes of lifeguard school.. Same exact thing with the rubber brick test. The idea is to not allow the brick to touch the water surface. While I will admit this can certainly become physically demanding!.. It’s kinda the same principle tho!. You hold the deepest breath you can, for al long as possible. Your head unfortunately will doubtfully be able to stay above water. But tread water as vigorously as possible while allowing your full lungs do the majority of the work. Then when you must come back up for a fresh deep breath. Kick as hard as possible to get that head above water, long enough to get a really good deep breath. And repeat until further notice. These are simply mind games, made to weed out those who are weak minded and aren’t good at problem management.. They effectively want to break you, to see who truly doesn’t want to honestly be there and embrace the suck.. (no homo) 😁

Got a 9 on my practice test at the recruiting office so I picked up the Asvab for dummies book and so far it’s helping me understand more that I need to know and it has pointers on how to breakdown questions, going back in a few days to test again after studying for a week

I was Air Force, we learned very fast that the ones you didn’t screw around with when they were on the Parade Deck were the female drill instructors. They caught every minor in fraction, showed no mercy and gave no quarter. They have ny eternal respect.

I just turned 35, is it too late for me to do reserves? I have a family of 3 boys (newborn, 1yo and 4yo) and I want to be here to raise my boys. I have a decent job but if I join I’ll be taking a huge pay cut.

Join the National Guard. You'll need a dependent waiver though. The guard has large bonuses for critical jobs and more opportunities than the Marines.
