My dad had one of these in Saudi arabia in the 90s. His was a California import and had a nice body kit and skirts and they'd done the convertible modification but it'd been done extremely well. It looked totally factory. Went like and absolute train and sounded incredible. Handled terribly mind, especially after they chopped the top off. That's how she died, he climbed a small palm tree in her. But she certainly was a head turner until then 🤦🏻♂️. In the deep metallic burgundy ruby colour. Looked so much better with the kit his had too.

My first car at 14 was a 94 Convertible in the admiral blue 6 Speed not the ZR-1 but drove it hour & half back home barely knew how to drive a stick. And I still remember feeling like a rocket ship the incline to pull up was so steep. I think I killed it 4 times before I finally got her out and I hammered it then dumped the clutch and tires burning never let out of it and slid into opposite lane just perfect. The guys at shop cheering, embarrassing to exhilarating. I say perfect but I was supposed to go right but ended up left. But hey nobody else knew that so fake it till you make it.

Thanks for posting, Lee. Training for sales people back in the day? I have only watched the first chapter so far. What is a 969?😂 Whoever wrote this at GM should've gone back to class! 😮 I always thought that ZR-1's DIDN'T receive Z-51 spec'd parts...something engineering would maybe have been at odds with the managerial decision makers who made that decision because they thought the people who could afford the car would want a soft ride... Hib Halverson even bought the Z51 spec'd parts but never got around to installing them before he sold "Barney". ...Just my recollections. That Quasar Blue Z looks beautiful and videos like this are fun to watch and remember when the ZR-1 was King of the Hill!

Had to remove the beach boys music from it due to copyright issues, thus the dead air
@mlc7boosted5 ай бұрын
I've wondered about this. Because if you did not add the music yourself it would be up to GM to remove the music and re-release the tape; GM didn't and probably paid the royalties to the group or record company years ago.

Really cool cars. That Lotus engine was very sophisticated, especially in its day. Made in America, though! That engine was not just impressive on the performance end. It looks killer too. No plastic on top of that one.

Great, Corvette C4 has a racing pedigree, it was very successful across a wide field of racing and classes. Also those American consulted GTPs, while not necessarily attractive to look at, were very capable performing cars.

They were trying to make it more competitive for the competition against the ZR1. Adding weight was so unfair for the ZR1!!!!
@redtesta Жыл бұрын
never could figure how they can add 500lbs and its a "supercar" race. If your supercar is heavier or lower on horsepower, pound salt, that is on the mfg. " Proved to be the supercar today". How can someone say that when it was weighted race?
@taproom1138 ай бұрын
Exactly. The ZR-1 Ruled! Without the extra 500 lbs, the brakes and tires wouldn't have faded as much and the Firehawk would never have gotten that close to Kim. Long Line the Legend ... ^v^

Hello everyone, i’m thinking of purchasing a 1991 ZR1 Here in Australia I have located one with 4000 original miles on it. The question is being on the other side of the planet and parts availability for the engine how reliable is this engine and what are the main issues people are having with these engines if any? Thanks in advance, excellent video
@LTG1930 Жыл бұрын
Engines are generally bullet proof. Fuel injectors and pumps are probably the most likely thing in need of replacement. Jerry’s Gaskets In Oklahoma Has most of the parts anyone would need
@scarringtonzr1 Жыл бұрын
Parts for these aren’t hard to source but you have to stock up on a few things that aren’t at your local parts store. I have traveled extensively with mine over the years and I always had a complete hose kit, water pump and gasket spare serpentine belt that would all fit in the little storage compartment behind the seats. Also I have a spare starter and alternator on the shelf just in case. Alternator is a pretty common part but for peace of mind the rest of the parts I would recommend. Good luck by the way I never needed anything on a trip. Just prepared.
