Having life experience outside the military helps with professionalism in my opinion (not saying young folks aren’t professional, just saying I have more job experience). There are some days I wish I would’ve came in sooner because I would have been halfway through my career by now but I have no regrets. @@taznolebae yes you have to take all your piercings out at BMT and in uniform there after beside the first lobe piercing for women. Men are allowed to wear clear spacers if they have lobe piercings.

I did not have a degree before joining but I was one class away from completing an AA in Writing and Literature. You do not need a particular degree as an enlisted member for any particular job. I hope that helps!

If you have an NREMT cert then you get to skip a good portion, around 3 months of training, but if you only have a state cert then you do NOT get to skip ANY of the training even if you have a Paramedic cert. If you have a LPN/LVN/RN cert, you cannot skip the nursing portion. To be fair, the nursing portion is only about a month long and almost impossible to fail

I dunno if this info is too late, but usually you get sent to your "AIT" (AIT is Army) school right away. I'm not sure about army/navy, but typically in the Air Force (unless you are Guard/Reserves in "student flight"/Delayed entry program) you're "pipelined" into going straight to Tech School. After you graduate BMT, you are put into a bus to go 30 minutes away to Fort Sam Huston from Lackalnd AFB (not in Huston,TX btw) the day after you graduate Basic Military Training (BMT). You will not have time in-between graduating and going to Tech School to visit family except for the graduation ceremony. You may have time during Tech School to visit family if they are nearby, but usually you wont be able to until your have the "phase 2 or 3" privileges.

Yes, there was a LVN in my class and she had to go through the entire Tech School. If you have an RN, then you can join as an Officer

My tech school was about 30mins from BMT so I packed my suitcases before leaving for BMT and I asked my boyfriend if he can bring them to my new base where my tech school was located.

Hello, I’m not sure how it works exactly for someone with dependents but perhaps in the future I can do a sit down video with my friend and she can tell you more about it since she was married and had a child when she left for BMT and tech school.

It’s difficult because I don’t have a bank where I’m stationed now so I can’t ask for specific bills 😭

I definitely recommend. This job can translate very well into the civilian world and you can even get your LPN by taking a test just from having this job. 👍🏼

I’m going into the Air Guard for 4N0X1 soon but I heard that they do let you skip a certain portion. I’m not completely sure, make sure to ask! I think it was the First Aid?

As a 4N yes you can. There are restrictions as to when you can use it however.

In the AF you are shipped to your tech school directly from bmt, then you do RAP after tech school. Where you go home and work with your recruiter.

They have a shared kitchen for everyone in the dorm to utilize.

It was about 6months but I was there during exodus so maybe more like 5months.

Technically speaking, you are not allowed overnight guests unless they are also active military. So for instance, if your civilian friend or parents wanted to stay over, they are supposed to be out of the dorms by midnight.
