I can't get the anisotropic direction painting to work. I've just installed the Marmoset 5 trial just to try out this feature, since this is the only program I've found that seems to have direct flowmap painting on 3D models. When I try to set it up like in the video, with no anisotropic direction map loaded in the material properties, the brush cursor doesn't show and nothing happens when I try to paint. When I give it an empty map (a flat green one I've generated via the export button), I can paint, however it's not directional. It seems to instead be.. erasing the green, or something? Revealing a colorful map underneath that has some sort of effect on the direction, but I can't control it by painting. Mind you I've never used this program before, so maybe I'm doing something wrong. However, painting albedo or normal for example seems to works fine.

Hi there! Sorry you're experiencing trouble with this. We can confirm an issue with the anisotropic map direction painting in Toolbag 5.01. As a workaround, you can revert to installing version 5.00 using the installer from this page: docs.marmoset.co/docs/version-5-00/ Please keep an eye out for a hotfix that should address this issue in the near future.

Everything in toolbag 5 is awesome. The only thing left I want is other method to project texture onto the mesh, like sphere/cylinder/cube/planar projection. Maybe warp too, with ability to edit the warp on both 3d and 2d viewport. Is there any plan or this feature? Thanks

Thanks for the feedback! We don't have more base material projection modes available right now (only UV, UDIM, and Triplanar), but we'll get this request upvoted for our dev team!

Awesome thanks for sharing, coming from Painter it's cool to see pretty much every feature that i can remember here in this program, it even has Hair groom import and texturing which Painter doesn't have, one thing strange is the layer order, seem that sublayers have the regular down up order but layer masks seem to have the opposite, is that correct? I also don't see the equivalent to ancor point being able to link multiple layers together, it may be called something else here.

I still only use it for baking and sometimes rendering (UE5/Blender is kind of taking that away though). Texturing is very painful in Marmoset, the UX is terrible and the UI very rigid. Even for baking it starts pissing me off a bit lately with auto loader not working properly and opening 3 extra sub menus every time I double click on an object in the scene. I would say that if you can get SBS painter on steam as perpetual, do that and simply render on UE5 or Blender (they have material nodegraph and are very fast too). If you can't get Painter on a perpetual license then you could give Toolbag 5 a chance I guess, (and I say that because I hate subscription licenses).

The only thing stopping me from switching is the inability to change the navigation method. I'm used to blender and I've setup all my other softwares to be like that. Wish y'all added that feature too.
@MarmosetCo3 ай бұрын
What concerns do you have with navigation? Would love some more information so we can better assist!
@harrysanders8182 ай бұрын
@@MarmosetCo One concern that bugs me personally is the inability to scroll windows with mid or right mouse button, like in Blender, or 3D Coat, or with CTRL+SHIFT+Drag, like it's done in Painter. .Always having to aim for that tiny left bar in each window to scroll it up/down feels like a chore inside the otherwise so great UX. Also the inability to assign custom shortcuts to certain tools feels a bit hindering compared to other apps. A Keymap would be most welcome.

Appreciate the feedback. 🤝 No, we do not offer a "rent to own" structure, but Toolbag is offered with both perpetual and subscription license options. A monthly sub is a great low cost of entry option, and with no long-term commitment required on a monthly sub, you can enjoy the new features in Toolbag at your own pace!

UI/UX is total chaos here, please just make a new redesign from scratch and make it simple, consistent graphic style/iconography and also make it user friendly cause no one will switch to MT from very powerful and very simple to learn/use SP if this stays like that. Just a friendly suggestion. 😉

The Toolbag 5 release delivers several new material/shader features: UDIM & Multiple Texture Set support, Bevel Shader, Triplanar material projection, Layered Materials (w/ vertex color, height, and mask blending), and a new hair shader to go along with Groom support. We'd love for you to give the painting features a try too, and let us know if you have any additional feature requests!
