I tried the OXA QCTP thing on my Sherline, but I wound up going back to the stock tool holder. I had issues with the qctp turning when in use no matter much I tightened it up. It also just felt “clunky” and oversized!

Under very high vibrations, sometimes mine also go loose. But generally ı have no problem with self loosining. But mostly handle go loose bot not tool holder. And my tool holder is almost perfectly fit to the qctp. Very less clearence. Maybe your is defected with a big clearence ?

@@foursixnine I believe when you experience with the feed, cutting depth etc, its very very silent. The most hard one is steel, others are piece of a cake for this lathe dont worry. Steel is also ok with right cutting tool for its size :)

Pretty impressive demonstration of a real-life use case. I was only considering this machine for scale model building purposes (plastic, hard wood, brass and aluminium), but being able to even make small custom tools would be a massive bonus on top.
@UpCycleMakerАй бұрын
I can surely say this machine is more than scale building. If you watch my never videos, i am machining stainless steel very easily. It has all the features as a bigger lathe mahine but in very smaller size :)
@IskelderonАй бұрын
@@UpCycleMaker @UpCycleMaker Tool making in combination with a mill would be a huge benefit on top. For stuff like spaceships, it's often better to make a brass or aluminium tube stand and inner frame to make things transportable and prevent sagging over the years. Would work well in that kinda situation. And of course, making engraving tools and the like. And powered thread making is less hassle than manually cutting them into tubes and cylinders.

A machine determines the quality of your products. Do yourself a favor and invest the time to visit a lathe/milling machine dealer, get an introduction what to look for. Right after that, go to the hardware store and have a look to the proxon tools. I bet this brands products are a lot less impressive, then.

Hi. I left a comment on your other video about aluminum inserts. Try it sometime. It greatly increases the amount of material removed per pass, in addition to providing a better finish. On my channel, there is a video where I compare the two inserts and the HSS bits. You won't regret it. NOTE: For this insert, I was able to increase the durability by adjusting the tool 0.1mm to 0.3mm below the center line.

I am shopping for a small(ish) late and matching mill. Why? Just because such a pair would please me. I do preision work in the area of tool and die-making. For a couple of years now I've been studying, watching videos. Seems like far too many of those (made you know where) lathes ship with problems that the buyer is burden with identifying and repairing. I get the idea the retailers never see the lathe and have no opportunity to physically inspect it. This is unsatisfactory. Proxxons seem different. Designed in Germany? I've not seen a video yet of one that needed anything more than the usual leveling and truing adjustments by the buyer. I like the Proxxon line but they are just a bit smaller than I want. If the PD250E was scaled up by a factor of 2 I would buy one immediately. A 10 inch lathe is just too small for my work. Price is not a primary consdideration. Charge what you have to charge but don't compromise and above all don't leave it to the buyer to find and repair factory screw ups. Thanks...
@bastian61733 ай бұрын
Then PD 400 is for you... but it also needs rework in several areas... Michel Uphoff has a lot of videos about it. Proxxon is good but not flawless.
@UpCycleMaker3 ай бұрын
Sory for late answer. Proxxon is very quality lathe in its class. I am a hobbiest and very small pieces my pd250 done a great job. Even ı push it limits its ok. It is very precise. With extra part if you want you can increase its precision too. But it comes with very less accesories. You need to buy many accesories such as qctp, carbide tools, fixed steady etc. But its accesories are very expensive. But once you buy anything from proxxon it will probably serve you many years. I also suggestyou to buy PD400. because for example my spindle bore is 10 mm. I cant use any long piece for cutting its really unconveinient for me. I dont know your working area but pd400 has atleast 20 mm bore in its chuck. Proxxon is german made and you can feel its quality. Even its extremely expensive but i suggest you PD400.
