It seems you visited a lot of piano factories, like me! I ended up buying an upright Bechstein R124 , maybe in few years I will buy a grand :) how was your experience at the Steingraeber factory? this piano sounds amazing!!!
@Pleyel20426 күн бұрын
Thank you for your comment. Visiting Steingraeber factory was great. Ugo Steingraeber spent most of the afternoon guiding us in the factory even thought he new that I would only ever buy one grant like this. I had the choice between 2 similar B192. Both were great but I instantly preferred the one I bought. Moving around the grands in the room for a second trial after the visit did not change my choice. Honestly I would have been more than happy with the other one too. Steingraeber grands are very consistant in their sound character even comparing different size models. I am glad I did buy it 10 years ago because its price increased by a factor of two while my salary did not!

Yes you 're right. Actually at that time period it was quite usual for composers to copy transform rewrite etc... other composer's works. I read somewhere that Bach did know Fischer's works and did like them.

This was a very interesting interpretation. You play it much slower than I do, which works better (I think) at the end of the piece than at the beginning. I’m going to try slowing my rendition down as you seem to get more emotion from the piece than I do. And I like the way you play a weighted left hand rather than playing it percussively, creating a more melancholic shift in mood. Well played indeed. 👍
@Pleyel2048 ай бұрын
Thank you for your very kind comment. I would be happy to listen to your interpretation. I am not sure you should try to change your way of playing this piece. Usually when I try to do that it does not work. Listening to my own recording is very useful. I try to improve it until I do not dislike it to much. But even when I upload a recording it is still quite far from the ideal sound I have in my mind!

Nice piano. Could you walk me through your thought process in deciding the B192 vs other pianos? Do you find 192 long enough? Or do you want a larger piano for deeper bass?
@Pleyel204 Жыл бұрын
Well the process was quite straight forward. I liked the sound of my old Pleyel grand but the action made more and more problems. So I had the choice between rebuilding the Pleyel or buying a new one. To try to decide I went to the piano shops near my town as well as in all the towns I did travel to in order to test as many pianos as possible. And when I tried a Steingraeber piano I thought "that's the one"! Concerning the size nowadays 190 cm is about the magic size above which you can get a good equilibrium between the piano registers. Actually the Steingraeber 192 compares well to the 210 cm grands in other brands. Even the small Steingraeber A 170 is amazing. But whatever the piano brand the longer the better that's basic physics! Choosing the brand is a matter of taste. All pianos are different but each brand has its specific character. I hope it helps.

Thank you for this charming piano interpretation. There are already some good harpsichord and also partly organ recordings of Fischer's "Musikalischer Parnassus" suites (e.g. the already older but wonderful harpsichord version of the suites Euterpe and Uranie by William Christie), but only few interpretations with piano. So it's nice to see you helping to fill that interpretive gap in your YT channel. PS: I think that your YT recordings are a bit too quietly. A little more volume would be nice and could then be reduced by the audience, if desired, from each person individually.
@radnoll2 жыл бұрын
PPS: Here is a link to the above mentioned older but very beautiful harpsichord recording by William Christie, which in my opinion is still unsurpassed in its elegance and depth of feeling: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJKsiY2kecZ6odk
@Pleyel2042 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your very kind comment. There are indeed many wonderful pieces in these suites. Thank you for the link. It is really a great interpretation. Concerning the level of the recording, actually I do not perform any post processing of my recordings. What you hear is a direct, single shot, recording. The recording level has been adjusted so that when playing fortissimo it is only few dB below saturation. The full dynamic of the piano is therefore reproduced and is not compressed like in most modern recordings including classical recordings. An excess of dynamic compression is something I do not like at all and gives, I think, a completely unrealistic rendering of the music. In the same idea my recordings' left / right panning (done by the mics placement) is done from the listener point of view and not from the pianist point of view (treble in the right and bass in the left). Panning the music from the pianist point of view gives also , I think a very unrealistic rendering. I struggled ( still do ) quite a lot to obtain a result I like (lately changing from XY to NOS) but my recording configuration becomes more and more consistent. Actually there is much more to say about recordings set up, it is a very interesting topic, but this is already a long answer. Cheers. Christian.
