is it possible for a guitar to be french polish and painted in red or other common colors in flamenco guitars?

There are different shades of shellac that is used in French Polish. But its not red like the Conde guitars you might be referring to...

Thanks for the very clear demonstration and explanation. I'd like to ask you which electric drill winder bit you have, it looks more protective of the instrument than the one's I've seen. I'd feel more secure using something like that as opposed to the hard plastic variety that could potentially scratch the finish.

Hi Dan, I made this winder out of a piece of wood and glued a hex driver to it. Works pretty well, and you can do the same;)

Excellent explanation ! The best I've heard. I will practice it and will go to the next one. The right hand is way much difficult it seems... But a lot of alliterations too..

I am usualy the kind of guy who's always searching forward Kasha, composites, double top, etc... And while I was listening to you and your lovely guitare I was wondering why searching for a thing that already exist ? The alliance of spruce and cypress has proven once more its pertinence. I wil search for some images of the construction if they exist. Thanks for sharing your love of crafting guitars.

I am a retired symphony musician, who is now studying classical guitar, and a good friend of mine (I won't name-drop) plays one of your instruments. It is a work of art. I am so envious! May you continue to make art for a very long time. 🙂

It has the sound of a traditional flamenco guitar as the wood and body depth make evident. It's a good guitar. Paco preferred the concert flamenco guitars by Hermanos Conde sobrinos de Esteso. The Conde Hnos. guitar has a cedar top and deeper body.

I personally don't like the product but I know of a lot of wood workers loving it. Give it a try on a piece of wood and see if its something that would work for you.

I've done 6 more holes on the 1/4 guitar of my son to lower the action and I didn't really know how to tie the strings on that modified bridge. I've now got the best method ! Thanks a lot.

The explanation is very clear. Thank you. One question to ask is will you use the nail clipper to cut off the extra strings on the head side? If yes, how much to cut off?

That thing is incredible. It sounds a bit like if you put an Oboe d'amore tone into a classical guitar. This instrument: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHi3YZyGpbpsn9U I think there is this "crying" sound that is in really beautiful instruments... I'm just starting my luthier journey, but I think I'm going to make a wider variety of instruments and invent new instruments... Starting out with a lyre so that I can learn a bunch of rough mistakes. But I'm trying to incorporate the sound of the viola da gamba, harp and lute into this lyre with its soundboard and bracing structure. Funny enough, the wood I am using for the soundboard is cheaper than the wood I am using for the rest of the guitar - hardware store cedar, but where I just went and tapped on a bunch of pieces until I found a quartersawn piece I really liked. Heh. Once I get better at this I'll be using more specialty lumber. Also... this is the best classical guitar I've ever heard, how much do you charge? It somehow has "Steinway" and "Oboe d'amore" in it haha

It sounds brash and wild to me. Bright without organization. That's partly about how this particular player affects this guitar.

@AndSendMe Heh I do not hear what you are talking about. This guitar has a bell tone to my ear, which is usually a plus in most instruments.

@AndSendMe yea I really hear a lot of dynamic range on the guitar as well. That is the timbre between soft and loud, harsh and mild is large.

@@hellomate639 I will listen with different speakers today. I share your appreciation for Oboe d'amore sound. The late lute maker Robert Lundberg called aspects of that kind of sound 'covered'. You might like the sound of a 1942 Sanfeliu blanca that is on the GSI channel.

@AndSendMe well, you could try to also tell me what you hear in it more because I am still open. I think the mic here isn't very good. I hear this long, drawn out bell tone that gives this emotiveness and clarity of tone across the harmonics, but where the harmonics are clean. I remember seeing a curve comparing two tonewoods for guitar, and the one I liked better had the same harmonic spread, but the overtones were more grouped in the distribution, in that you had several distinct overtone peaks in the recording, compared to the one I liked less that had a more even distribution of tones, which sounded less crisp. I wonder if there's a technical term for this

I am extra careful. With plain nylon string I like to burn the end of it to form a ball. That way it will never slide off. With the wound string, I like to make an extra loop around the pressing point.

Looks straight forward but I did have some issues. I think holding the free end of the string, after it's been pulled through the loop, against the back of the bridge is important to get the the loop twisting the right way. I did, however, have slippage of carbon strings, E and B string, despite roughening the end with sand paper. I suppose the demonstration is with nylon trebles and maybe they grip better? I now take the free end of the E and B string twice through the loop after it's been twisted and so far so good. :)

Excellent video. I watched a lot of them. Even though I don't have a 12 hole bridge, this is an excellent tutorial, because a very confusing step is tying the string to the tuning machines, which almost no one explains clearly. Thank you Erez!
