Another GREAT video on finding great boon docking spots. If you don't mind a suggestion, for these videos could you please start putting in a bit of leave no trace encouragements? The more people you show these awesome sites to the more probability that some people will not treat the land nicely. Maybe a pre-recorded video to put within your videos somewhere, so you don't have to record the information on how to treat our public lands every time?

Thanks, Kyle. I'm wrapping up my 3rd year of full-timing, and have been wanting to camp the Bighorns, so I've been especially grateful for your last couple of episodes. I camped Utah's amazing Wasach Plateau for 4 weeks this summer, and about 70% of the rigs parked up there were unoccupied. I hope the Forest Service steps up enforcement there! It's a real bummer to pass up great camp spots that are filled, but not occupied.
@thewanderingshores2 күн бұрын
Thanks Paul, glad that it was helpful. We will actually have another campsite review for another area here in the bighorns coming out on Wednesday and then the following Wednesday we will have another one so hopefully you can check those out. Yes, we agree. The enforcement is lacking in a lot of these places where people are just dropping their rigs and letting them sit. We are excited though that the bighorn National Forest office seems to be enforcing the rules. One of the drops that's been sitting here for 10 days since we've been here. Just got removed today by the owners

There are some more very nice dispersed campsites down the road past the trailhead where you stopped the video. Best for car or tent camping. Road is a little bit rougher but any car can make it. I car/tent camp, but I love your free boondocking tips, because there is always room for just an SUV as well. This area is one of my favorites near Buena Vista.
@thewanderingshores3 күн бұрын
Yeah we turned around at the trailhead parking lot because the road got pretty rough there. Good to know that if you have a smaller vehicle you can get back there and find some more great spots. Thanks for the heads up
@Adventureswithbecky4 күн бұрын
Do you need 4x4 to drive those roads to get into the blm spots?
@thewanderingshores4 күн бұрын
Becky, no, not at all. They are very manageable with two-wheel drive vehicles. Higher clearance might be ideal but honestly you're not going to have any problem getting back in those spots without 4x4

The problem with this type of video is not the good people looking. This area has had trouble with homeless camps and the mess that goes with them including drugs and theft. Un recent years people have been driving in the river and camping in the gravel bars with no bathroom facilities. The porta potties generally are only used by people that care. Watch out for dog fecus as well. It doesn't take many to ruin it for all.
@thewanderingshores5 күн бұрын
I'm not sure that you can draw a correlation between boondocking videos and homeless camps, Thousands of people camp in these areas around the country and sure there are those few out there that didn't follow the rules and abuse the privilege but a portion of this falls on the enforcement side of things. I have seen the NF Service do an amazing job of going in and addressing these issues as well as addressing those locals that use the public lands as a place to store their RVs.
@offroad63095 күн бұрын
@@thewanderingshores reread my first sentence. It takes the homeless a very short period of time to learn where all the handouts and special places are when they get to a new area. They have a network that would surprise you. I learned this from talking to them. Take a moment and ask yourself how do they know where the camps are? They believe safety in numbers and congregate for this reason. I live in this area and know only too well some of the issues that have been going on in this and other areas in the valley. While what you are doing is noble in thought has unintended consequences that only people who actually live in the area see. This spring they closed down this area for awhile due to issues. Again, a select segment ruins it for everyone.

@thewanderingshores6 күн бұрын
Pilot knob only has dumpsters. No bathrooms or showers at all. Imperial dam is the one that has access to showers if they're open over at the campground by the dam. As for mice, we've never really had any issues in the 4 years that we've spent the winters there- Kyle and Michelle

Very good and helpful video to help find these places. I was wondering if you explain in any video how you decide to pick that exact spot over one that is half-mile away. And how you decide how close / far away from a neighbor is ok. (Not friends you are traveling with like BDR but distance to next unknown person). Might be interesting to film the decision process.
