I can't imagine why Spielberg decided to cut these two scenes, which really enrich the story and the characters.

I kind of know why, but could someone more knowledgeable about film put into words why deleted scenes look so crappy? Were they not fully processed or something? Thanks
@mxmxpr2 ай бұрын
They are 35mm workprint elements transfered in 1997 in standard definition for DVD. They haven't been retransferred in HD since. When editing on a movie is finished, the original camera negative is conformed to the final cut, which is why that always looks better. Quality is not a consideration with work materials, and on this it was already 20 year-old film at the time it was transfered in standard definition and released on DVD with compression.

I think it had the opposite meaning... they wanted something that would scare away even those who might have fanatical beliefs. With some of the other ideas being proposed, there might be some who wouldn't want to leave.

I'm with you too on that point. It would help if the Super Deluxe set was in a portable form. Then it would be easier to store. If the SOM SDE soundtrack is a non-limited set, we can be hopeful that Craft may reprint the set in a smaller format. I've seen some other multi-disc box sets first issued in a large form, then reissued in a smaller package.
@stephencowley36616 ай бұрын
Yes the discs are a bit difficult to remove from the cardboard casing which can cause you to scratch the disc if you aren't very careful. One of the things I would like to know is, which of the other Rodgers & Hammerstein's film musical soundtracks will be next to get the same treatment as SOM, but next favourite to SOM is 'South Pacific'.
@yipengli10726 ай бұрын
@@stephencowley3661 I hope that Craft could do a follow-up soon. Maybe they could negotiate the rights for the King and I soundtrack. Though I’m also hoping they do a new South Pacific deluxe soundtrack, I’ve heard it said that the scoring masters could be lost. It would be harder to locate them. Also, I saw that the King and I DVD has an isolated score track. This makes me hopeful that, like Sound of Music, it can have a similar release.

I remember opening and listening to the LP in 1977, and being highly impressed with the package and the superior sound, start to finish.
