Holding up Leo as an example of good acting is like selling shit to a plumber. We know it's there, but nobody wants it. He has four expressions and two of them working when he wasn't 50+ lbs overweight. Wow. Worst example of acting ever. Like ever in the history of acting.

Christ - you kids have zero sense of history. Go check out Richard Ward in Brubaker ot Sidney Lassick in One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest to see what good acting really is. Either that or check into an acting class and stop being brainwashed by Hollywood cool drek.

Sorry, sir, but the point of the scene with the boat isn't that the guy doesn't know why he's building it, but that he doesn't speak French, the French guy doesn't speak Spanish, and Ghostdog doesn't speak either, but they all free roughly work out what each other mean. It's a beautiful running gag repeated throughout the film that illustrates that spoken languages are not what divide us, and that we all can find common understanding in things if we're open to them. Also, no, the Gangsters didn't decide to kill Ghostdog because it was part of their code. They decided to kill him because the daughter witnessed him do it, and therefore couldn't be seen to not do something about him. I'm kinda getting the feeling you watched the film without really understanding it...

I happen to come on to this while I was looking for these clips to explain this exact point to somebody on Whatsapp - while discussing good acting and how underrated Leo is in my opinion. Glad to see I am not the only one that noticed how good this role and specifically these scenes were.

This is one of those films where it's really easy not to notice that there's also an absurd (but not total) absence of female characters in it.

It doesn't matter. Owlman understands that the very nature of the universe exists only to nullify every decision made by human beings. He's right. He's not a nihilist: he wants to make the one decision that CANNOT negated by the universe. He wants to be the only free human being who ever existed.

I think the quote from Hagakure about the futility of trying to recapture the spirit of an age is the main theme of the film. Although the codes of the main characters are different, they face the same fundamental problem of being bound by honor in a dishonorable world. They are the last of their species, and on some level, they all seem to know it.

Everything is to be loved about this movie, from RZA soundtrack to impeccable philosophy, AND Ghost Dog is a friend of the pigeons, beautiful smart birds that people fail to notice, as invisible and timeless as him. Damn i just love this movie so much

I completely disagree with Pitt's character not having much of an arc. Him being the hero at the end of the day is his arc culminating if you ask me. The guy who everyone hates and is the bad guy who murdered his wife. Always back seat to the man he stunts for. Hating arrogant actors himself (Bruce Lee). His mediocre career finally coming to an end and them parting ways, suddenly thrust into a scenario where he literally saves Hollywood single handedly with his dog and a can of dog food? If that's not an arc I don't know what is.
