XO seemed like it was caught in between ideas. True Geordie (and Laurence by association) were the only real football creators out of the original four. Some of the early sports stuff was really good, but it didn’t really maximise Will and Stephen

I think fundamentally the problem with the XO was that the directions Will and Brian wanted to go with the channel were too different. The videos felt too disjointed from one another.
@mdbp69
@mdbp69 20 күн бұрын
I don’t remember who’s interview it was, but I remember hearing someone say that Brian and Laurence wanted more documentary type videos, and like those sports related trips they made at the beginning, and Will wanted to do more buzzfeed type stuff, and "googles most asked questions" and so on. Remember also hearing that they then had a budgeting problem from the company that owned the channel, and that combined with the disjoint in direction killed the channel

From afar WillNE could be the best at maximising value from KZbin, but he's also the poster child for low effort slop in my mind. The old reaction stuff, the over the top thumbnails and algorithm hunting. It works, but it also turns your content towards a child audience.

You need to split this into three groups. Entertainment channels, podcasts and informative football channels. Tifo, The Athletic and FourFourTwo will do in depth tactical breakdowns and analyze players and how they are able to be effective. Not entertaining, but interesting and good for learning/understanding more about the modern game at the highest level. Podcasts where they have discussions with former players tend to do well (depending on who the former players are). Entertainment channels. In the past the top one was obviously the F2 freestylers. But imo I dont particularly find any of them entertaining. I gave XO a go when they first started up, and it was just silly, immature nothingness. If you like watching people act like prats, then you will probably prefer to watch nonsense like the Sidemen. This is why Sky have now taken over (in terms of views) with regards to KZbin. Years ago you had the Sunday Supplement on tele which was kind of boring, albeit I've always rated Henry Winter as a journalist. But it was too formal and treated like a group of men discussing politics not football. Then Soccer AM finished, which was a shame as I really enjoyed that. And then the KZbin channels as mentioned in this, saw an opportunity and had years of progress and popularity. But Sky are currently killing the competition on KZbin because they have all the areas covered. With Roy Keane and Ian Wright plus Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, they have big characters with plenty of personality talking about the current/relevant topics but from a place of experience. Plenty of jokes and banter, great chemistry between them all, but also mixed in with strong opinions. They make it fun and enjoyable, but also take it seriously.
