Did the Trudeau government consider that some provinces, such as New Brunswick, will need to be compensated for their lost HST revenue. Was the chaos that this will cause to retailers considered ? Retailers will now have to temporarily turn off GST computations on their POS systems for certain products. How much is this voter bribe adding to the national deficit ? Shouldn't we be addressing matters of more importance such as the declining foreign and domestic investment in Canada that started when Trudeau first became PM and has accelerated downward during his tenure. Canada has many issues of importance for the future stability and prosperity of this country and yet Trudeau chooses to do this short-sighted stunt. It says a lot about his leadership capability.

First of all Groceries DO NOT HAVE HST so a major cost to Canadians is completely unaffected. Only 'snack' foods have HST bit I suppose when your monthly grocery bill is $8,000 you are enjoying a massive amount of specialty foods. And then the companies who sell thesr types of products are expected to absorb the cost of changing the tax codes for whatever is eventually covered by the bill for all of TWO MONTHS. Canada needs to prepare a retaliatory tariff plan, in case the Trump administration levies a general 10% tariff against all imports, even from Canada, despite our free trade agreement. But to do that inteligently, the tariffs have to be target. You need to target tariffs to products that compete with Canadian products in the high-wage high productivity sectors of the economy, and not apply them to imported inputs to those sectors. We should also make it clear that we would prefer free trade, but that if Trump imposes tariffs, we will retaliate. Also, we should double our defense spending.
