I'm looking to replace hardwood bed frame nonsense roof beams in my garage, and doing some back-of-the-envelope structural analysis with your guide was really helpful. It's remarkable how strong 80x80mm hardwood beams are, I seem to need 120mm section i beam to match the strength!

tl;dr it's a very averagely paid job. You'll make at least as much doing anything else that requires any degree. However this has chartership nonsense and a lot of unpaid overtime, so I'd say only bother if you REALLY love it, otherwise its not worth doing. Good news is that many high paying jobs will value an engineering degree, so you're not fucked if you decide to change to something that actually pays money

If you get lost (infinite is quite big), you can use the little arrows at the edge of the screen to get back to where you started - just tap one and you’ll zoom home. What is the think that we have for android similar to arrows which ipad has? Could you please help this as soon as possible.

Even the gas stations which somehow compete against each other, as a community have each other's back having a minimum price!! That's what should Engineering firms and Engineers be doing by considering the level of responsibility and the added value to humanity. The Engineer's rights and values should be protected by local and international institutes!! I always like to give two different examples by comparing Doctors and Engineers: 1. The Payment: 1.1)When you need a doctor, you need to book a time. Upon arrival, the secretary will charge you in advance (whether you like the “service” or not). Get there in time or not, you need to wait for the doctor which most likely is behind schedule. Will buy the medications before getting the results. If the diagnostics were wrong never go back to Camplaine. Will you?!!! 1.2) . Can ever an engineer to do so!? When you need a project usually give on the phone or on-site consultations for free. If win the project, you will get paid usually after the final delivery. Most definitely you need to deal with an “unhappy” client several times. 2. The scale of the responsibility: 2.1) If a neurosurgeon makes a mistake on the day of the surgery, how many people will die? Even if declared dead, doctors can yet claim the person had a health condition!! 2.2) If a structural engineer miscalculates a residential building and causes a collapse, how many people will die? I did not even start to compare with a Dam Engineer. If a Dam collapses what will be the scale of the damage, (the people's lives, the wildlife, nature, the culture of a disappeared city, ambientaç damage…) I leave it to you imagine the rest!!! Not to forget the many years of guarantee. 3) Overall: now you compare the level of income and the respect these two professionals have. It's unbelievably absurd. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Hello :) How can I apply the strut and tie method if my column is under tension, given that I would have a TTT node at the top of the pile cap and a TTC node at the bottom. I guess the formulas for the nodes would be different, but where can I find them for that specific case and what else is important to know if the columm is under tension? Also, is the the shape of the triangle, i.e. the compression and tension lines, the same, or in the case of uplift forces, it is an inverted triangle, i.e. symmetrical in relation to the middle plane of the pile cap? Thanks in advance :)

Hey mate, thanks for sharing. This is interesting. You mentioned that you don't typically "do" steel connections. Is it the case that you would not typically design it or not draft/document it? So, then who does it if the engineer is not doing it?

Most often the steel contractor will sub contract the steel connection design

Hi, thx for great videos 😊 working as an architect in Norway, Oslo Q: is it according to your knowledge any features from Morpholi trace (iPad app) that would be missing in Concept app that you are using. Its looks like my use off Morpholia is quite similar to your use of Concept. I desperately want more real estate on my pad (ie this looks like a great alternative Samsung Ultra S9, 14,6 inch). Problem is that Morpholio does not work on Androids I use all apple products so iPad is an important tool. The problem (subjective) with iPad is that its limits to 12.9 inch screen real estate. The Samsung S9 Ultra seems as an good alternative with 14,6 inch
@EverydayDazz2 ай бұрын
I’ve not used morpholio to any great extent so unfamiliar with what it can or can’t do compared to concepts. I think they are similar apps. My favourite thing about concepts is that it is vector based and therefore the quality of the lines are amazing for exporting.

Genuinely don't know if I'm right in saying the below, just going from my own logic and asking the question. Is spring stiffness not a property of the soil as opposed to a property of the load? Also, if you have units of kN/m divided by metres, you will surely get kN/m^2? My thought would be that if the ground bearing pressure were 150kN/m^2 for example, and the deflection was 20mm, then the spring stiffness would be 150 x 0.02 = 3kN/m?
@user-ut9hl4bx7i2 ай бұрын
I have since found out the correct solution from "Foundation Analysis and Design" 5th edition by Bowles (pages 501 and 513). The value shown in your video needs to be multiplied by the width of foundation and the trib length for each node. This will give you your value in kN/m, which is correct for a value of spring stiffness.

Your videos are not detailed and fast forward is very unhelpful. I understand that it takes much more of your valuable time to create detailed videos, but, from my experience of watching your videos, they are rarely appealing to graduates. Please make your videos more detailed and go through each step thinking as if the person watching the video has no knowledge of the subject.

When I use Microsoft OneNote, I can seamlessly shift from my PC to my iPad or Surface. As a structural engineer like yourself, I'm curious how you are using this to coordinate with your computer? I have heard good things about Good Notes, I've even paid for the damn subscription, but I can't make it do basic things as easily as OneNote.
