I knew nothing about mezzanine floors 4 hours before I was asked to design one. I watched this video and it was explained very well including all principles and thought process. Thank you mate!

Hay dazz grate work, in the drawing you put bracing all 4 corner, now my question is how do you know that the braceing is needed ? Steel Design, 5th Edition-William T. Segu in this book there is a example of braceing with only gravity load and no laterial load which is apply in your situation , do you find it same way or there is other way

Another great video, Dazz! In the future, do you think you would cover any retaining wall design? Bearing, sliding checks etc?

Hey Dazz, very informative video as always, it’s crazy how often these kind of projects come up, but it’s difficult to find advise online! Just a quick question, I’ve started using an iPad Pro for my everyday job no as well, what screen protector do you use? If any at all, Keep up the good work!

Thanks! And good stuff! I use paperlike, I put a link to it in my video description. I really like them as it is a matt finish so you get a bit more friction when using the pencil, so more control and less slippery.

The beams are spanned between column strong axis and the joists (wood/steel) run over the beams in perpendicular direction. So the floor span should be perpendicular to the joists...right or wrong?

did u just bolt the colmns to the existing slab?

Dazz, are the beams spanning left-right (in red) necessary or are the joists adequate for stability? I assume this is what the line "All other beams to be 203x102x23" refers to. Could you give any guidance as to how you sized them please?

I wouldn’t rely on cold formed joists to frame up a hot rolled frame. All other beams is me just looking at what they’re supporting by eye/experience. You could go and design them individually or find the worst case.

@@EverydayDazz Thanks for the reply. They aren't supporting anything though, are they? Just the lateral support?

good idea, but poorly executed by most companies. i find most engineering companies are so slow to adopt new technology.

I was curious on why didnt you design a footing and a pedestal for your mezzanine. Is it okay if I also dont use footing and pedestal and just bolt my base plate on the existing concrete slab?
