Duane West had no love for Truman Capote or Harper Lee-who traveled to Kansas as his “assistant researchist”-or vice versa. They used one another. “D.W. a slob,” jotted Lee in her notes.

Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood is a masterful exploration of crime, punishment, and the human psyche. While the book has minor flaws, Capote excels in portraying the duality and psychological complexity of the murderers, Perry Smith and Dick Hickock. The narrative compels readers to consider not only the nature of crime but also how mental illness can shape violent behavior. Perry Smith is depicted as a schizophrenic with a split personality, haunted by psychotic dreams and voices stemming from his traumatic childhood. In contrast, Dick Hickock was once a promising athlete and student but suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident, which led to severe impulse control issues. Alone, neither man might have become violent criminals; however, together they fueled each other’s darkest impulses, culminating in the brutal murders of the Clutter family. Capote’s nuanced portrayal reveals moments of remorse in Perry, showcasing his complex nature and challenging the notion of murderers as pure monsters. Instead, he presents them as deeply flawed humans shaped by troubled backgrounds, mental health struggles, and painful life experiences. Ultimately, In Cold Blood raises profound questions: Why do some individuals with difficult pasts lead normal lives while others take a dark, criminal path? Capote’s work transcends true crime, offering timeless insights into human nature and societal values. It remains a literary classic that forces readers to confront uncomfortable truths about morality and justice.

Wondering if the question will be answered about the lack of criminal charges that were (so far) NOT brought against the other 2 thieves, who assisted the one that was prosecuted. An unanswered question by everyone asked.

Hi, I would like to ask if you could say more about the R.R. breed on being trained for Therapy Work...what are your thoughts on the breed as a Mobility Service Dog? I know they have strong hunting/herding skills and can be stubborn. I've been around several herding/working breeds when younger growing up ranching/farming and Granddad was avid hunter/fisher raised/train Britney spaniels himself, so was taught a lot of training for hunting dogs. and my present Service Dog a rescue mix breed is Am.Staff/Shorthair Pointer is 17 and retired. So, I've been recaching several breeds; purebred and mixed. From German Shepherd mix/pure, RBelgian Malinois mix/pure, Rottweiler, Rhodesian mainly mixes IE: Boxer, R.R. & Blk. Mouth Cur and a Rottie/R.R, young and pup in ages. I've experience with Rottie"s and Bully breeds mixes. and only one dog in life that was a pure R.R. that strayed on to our ranch and made himself a home in our barn was very well behaved and very gentle in temperament around all the various animals, chickens, ducks, cattle, horses and especially loved sleeping in the barn and being around the baby calves and goats. But not knowing his history of who owned him before, even where he came from. Not a breed usually found on ranches/farms in CA. He was a rare jewel of a dog to be adopted into our family. So now that I'm looking for a new dog for Service work, seek the advice of those familiar with R.R.'s, but may be more complicated being that I'm looking at a mixed breed from rescue org. that have both pure and mixed R.R....and know both Rotties and Bully Breeds also can be very challenging in training since the can have a stubbornness, but also so intelligent that being mentally capable of problem solving situations on their own a plus and negative. I've been strongly discouraged in trying to rescue the mix or purebred in the Malinois/G. Shepherd rescue org. telling me they are too high energy, too ill-suited for apartment living for the energy level. But my experience with my Am.Staff/Pointer dog, when she was younger, had need of a lot of physical exercise during and after her training as my Mobility dog. My disability will one day require me to need a wheelchair partially or permanently is the nerve fully severs itself. But she was trained to be next to me in a chair. motorized and manual. She traveled daily in harness attached beside a recumbent bike, and in winter when to harsh to be outdoors, I have a treadmill for exercise for us both, and mental games/training scent work and now will be using a set of communication buttons as well. In the end I would enjoy hearing about your experience and expertise of training a R.R. for Service work.
