the reason the back dart gets sucked in is the venturi effect.

If the second dart gets pulled forward by a vacuum that means your barrel is to long. The dart needs to leave the barrel at the point where the barrel preassure is roughly 1bar, is it to short, preassure gets wasted is it to long, outiside pressure slows it down (and pulls the second dart forward) is it FAR to long the dart would come to a stop and move backwards, if the seal is good enough

Its not a mystery why the other dart moves forward. The first dart moving forward in the tube creates a vacuum the other dart tries to fill the void. the clickbait title is irritating, it does not "defy physics" it works perfectly within them with zero surprises except when not telling the whole truth.

What if you used the cone washers ( 1:42 ) but instead had them both facing out so the flat sides are towards each other with a spring between them and the cone sides are sealed on the pipes, not fully sure how the trigger would work, besides pulling the seal on the barrel side to release the air, so one side could move on the rod to let air into the tank and then reseals with a spring pushing on it and the other side is fixed on the rod so when the rod is moved back it lets air out pushing the dart through the barrel
