Most reviews are written by Western tourist so you know it's in line with your expectations. You can also type specific food so Google, best Pizza in Chaing Mai or best Burger restaurant near me. This makes it much easier to find quality places to eat. I also use Google to find things to see and do.

It’s completely liberating to only have a small backpack, in my experience I only try and carry a 7kilo backpack, it’s possible to keep it with you when traveling on buses, planes etc. Even on my current 7 week trip to Mexico via Beijing. Took a light jacket and sweater, as it was 2-C on my 14 hour stopover in China, still managed it around Beijing 🥶! The clock tower is a major attraction in Chiang Rai, there’s two, one that lights up at night and changes colour with music and an older clock tower at the other end of the Main Street, both have an interesting history. Hope you enjoy your trip Hamid 😊. The weather is warming up and heats up a lot during the day!

You booked the same Hopp Inn that I stayed at. I found it to be OK. No issues, room was quite. I was there in Summer. Worst time to visit as it's too damn hot. Thai government has a website to book train tickets without having to pay extra fees. The good thing is you can book it online and pay in cash I think within 24hrs in case you don't want to pay by card. There are detailed videos on KZbin how to use the Thai Train booking site. Site is also in English. Also never buy bus, train or flights from your hotel or travel agency as they will add extra money. Only buy if you have no choice. Enjoy Chaing Rai, I didn't book a tour I just negotiated with a tuk tuk driver cause I didn't want to visit many of sites and I wanted flexibility.
@HamidstravelКүн бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience! I agree, Hopp Inn is a decent option, especially for a quiet and hassle-free stay. Totally get you on the summer heat-it can be brutal! The tip about the Thai government train booking site is super helpful, especially the option to pay in cash within 24 hours. I’ll definitely check out those KZbin videos for guidance. Also, solid advice on avoiding travel agency markups; I always try to book directly whenever possible. Chaing Rai sounds like a fun place to explore with flexibility! Negotiating with a tuk-tuk driver seems like a smart move if you want a more personalized itinerary. Thanks again for the tips, and I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience! 🙏

Also you are out exploring most of the day so why pay for expensive hotel? Plus when I come back from sightseeing. I want to come back to a quiet place. Not hear street traffic and my neighbors talking. I want good sleep. Anyways that's my opinion. I would stay at the hotel and either walk or take a Bhatt Bus or Bolt. Its all about quality. This is a good size room at a decent price. It also seems new. Bed looks good size. I don't use TV as well but I wish they would have put a bigger size TV. Sometimes good to watch BBC. Price of TV is so cheap these days. Why spend more, you have everything you need. Good decision to stay in Chaing Mai. That's my opinion. Timing of you talking about Iran is interesting. I am in the process of trying to visit Iran in February or March before Ramadan this year. Americans cannot travel independently in Iran. I have to book a tour. I tried to visit last year but just as I started my visa process. It was at the time Israel bombed Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria. Then as you know Iran said it would retaliate. So I had no choice but to cancel my trip. Now with Trump in power I don't know what's going to happen. Let's see. I'm still trying to visit as it's been so long on my list. Architecture, culture, history, food, traditional music all interest me. In fact just today I sent my contact a question about wanting to visit Mashhad. I'm not religious just want to see it. What's the name of Matt's channel? Is it World Nomac? People are ok with one another it's just governments that dislike each other. So everyone has to suffer.

Yes, it’s World Nomac! 😊 I totally understand your perspective, and I really hope you get the chance to visit Iran and Mashhad. It’s incredible that you’re planning a trip-February or March sounds like a great time before Ramadan. Mashhad has so much cultural and historical significance, even for non-religious visitors. I visited when I was around 4 or 5, but I don’t remember much either, so I’d love to go back someday. It’s unfortunate how politics can create barriers for travelers, but I admire your determination to visit despite the challenges. Iran’s architecture, culture, and traditional music are truly unique and worth experiencing. I hope your visa process goes smoothly this time and that you get to enjoy all the amazing things Iran has to offer! Keep me posted on your plans-I’d love to hear how it goes! 🙌

@Hamidstravel so many hurdles to clear to obtain a visa. Also I like traveling independently but Iran does not allow it. I have to be on a tour or have a personal guide who will be with me 24hrs. So the cost increases a lot. I'm trying to stay for 14 days. If I could I would stay 1 month but even 14 days is not easy. I hope to visit all the famous Persian cities. Isfahan looks amazing as well as Persipolis. I like Persian traditional musical instruments so I want to see if I can visit a live concert. Iran has been on my list to visit for over 10yrs. It was one thing or another that always prevented it. Cost is very, very high. So let's see what happens. I think if you do a series on Iran your views will go up. As for me I want to visit it before more travellers start going. Then it will become another tourist trap. I'll keep you posted.

@@StormRider-k8j Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I completely understand your concerns about the hurdles involved in obtaining a visa and the restrictions on independent travel in Iran. It’s unfortunate that these rules make it challenging for travelers like yourself who value independence and affordability. Hopefully, in the future, Iran will simplify the process and make it easier for people to explore the country freely, without the need for guides or tours. Your plan to visit for 14 days sounds amazing, and it’s great that you’re determined despite the challenges. Isfahan and Persepolis are incredible destinations - they truly capture the rich history and beauty of Persian culture. Also, attending a live concert of Persian traditional music would be such a unique and enriching experience! As soon as you received your pizza. I could tell it was going to be questionable. It looked thick but then you picked up a slice it flopped. Pizza hardly had any cheese. I also agree with your comment about the dough and sauce having to taste right for it to be a good pizza. Everytime I visit a country I try to find a good local pizza place. I gave you my recommendation. I was impressed by that place. Not sure how it is now. Cheese is the main issue. Most likely they have to import cheese so they always put little cheese. Most Asian countries don't eat Western types of cheese.
@Hamidstravel5 күн бұрын
Thanks for your detailed observation! You're absolutely right-when the slice flopped, I knew the pizza might not meet expectations. And yes, without enough cheese, it loses that classic appeal. I really appreciate your recommendation from before; I might give it a try if I visit that place again. You also make a great point about cheese in Asia-it’s true that Western-style cheese isn’t as common, and importing it does drive up costs. That might explain the skimpy portions! @Hamidstravel I really like Japan because people are so nice and the country is very clean. They really look after nature. It's like everything is in harmony. Japanese by culture are introverts so don't expect them to have long conversations. Actually the Japanese Yen has been down against the dollar making it more affordable then ever. Downside is hotels are expensive and rooms are very, very small. Getting Western food is also a bit of a challenge. On my last trip I was actually put off because there were too many Chinese tourist everywhere. I think that's how it's going to be now. Oh my god, as you already know the Chinese can be very loud and rude. It's in complete contrast from the Japanese culture. Just like Thailand, if I go back I'm heading to smaller towns. As for South Korea, I found it in many ways to be like Japan. Amazingly green country lots of beautiful nature but I didn't find there to be lots to do. It's not a big country but yes they have great fried chicken. In fact there are lots of restaurants that just do fried chicken and beer.
@Hamidstravel5 күн бұрын
@@StormRider-k8j Thanks for sharing your experience! I completely agree-Japan's harmony, cleanliness, and respect for nature make it such an appealing destination. The only reason I haven’t visited yet is the high cost of hotels, especially for the tiny room sizes. Even though the yen is down, it’s still a stretch when compared to places like Thailand. As for Chinese, Indian, and Russian tourists, it’s funny because people in Thailand often complain about the same thing. I totally get how the cultural contrasts can feel overwhelming in quieter, more reserved countries like Japan. I’d also focus on smaller towns to avoid the crowds if I ever go! I'm not joking but my brand new sandals came unglued due to the heat. Top portions of my sandals separated from bottom portion. When I showed the hotel staff they told me it happens during summer months. Glue had melted. I bought like 3 tubes of Super Glue from 711 and even then it didn't work. It would just melt the minute I would be out in the heat. That was crazy. I totally agree about the quiet hotels. I'm the same, I like zero noise. I don't want to hear any noise. I swear, I thought I commented on your vlog that Chaing Mai is expensive but you said it's not. Now I know why I am confused. I post that comment on your other channel. Night market is also not that great. That was my experience. Peak travel period should technically end around 15Jan. Everyone has to get back to work and school. Thailand is pricy, Vietnam is probably the best value for money. Hotels tend to be nice and not overly expensive. Chaing Rai in my experience wasn't that nice. Chaing Rai needs money to modernize. It's more of a run down small town. It may feel like Laos, but you should judge for yourself. It has a pathetic, dead night market and not many restaurants. That's what I found. They call those transport buses Bhatt Bus. Suggestion, always take hotel business card in case you need to show Bhatt Bus driver or tuk tuk driver.

I haven’t explored Chiang Rai yet, but your description gives me a good idea of what to expect. I’ll definitely keep an open mind and judge for myself if I make it there. Good tip about taking a hotel business card - super practical advice for navigating with Bhatt Buses or tuk-tuks! Thanks again for watching and sharing your insights.

The terminal mall was opened in 2017 that was 7 years ago, but they keep it clean and there was a mass shooting in 2020, 30 people die in that mass shooting.

Thank you for sharing this information. It's impressive how well they’ve maintained the mall since it opened in 2017. The mass shooting in 2020 was such a tragic event-my heart goes out to all the victims and their families. It's a stark reminder of how precious life is. 🙏

Be careful of Thailand man..look what happened to you in Konkhaen. This is a well know fact for a farang to avoid group of dunk Thai men,they barely tolerate foreigners,for the money and spending that's it. What you witness in Laos is what deep down a non negligeable percentage of Thais feel. I was in Laos and i felt they dislike foreigners...some type of passive aggression mindset...they won't blatantly assault you like in some unsafe country but they will make you feel you're not welcomed,just tolerated to use your cash.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. I can relate to some of what you're saying, especially after my terrible experience in Khon Kaen. Unfortunately, not every encounter in Thailand is positive, and it’s true that some situations can make you feel unwelcome as a foreigner. That said, I think these experiences can vary a lot depending on the place and the people you interact with. I've also had many good moments in Thailand where I felt genuinely appreciated. It's a mixed bag, but your advice to be cautious in certain situations, especially around groups of drunk individuals, is definitely worth keeping in mind. Thanks again for your input!

For me it was the most boring country I have every visited. The hotels - and food sellers - just charged whatever they felt like charging (inconsistent) and they had no interest in any exchange with you. Every time I went to Vientianne (to change my visa) I was robbed - hotel room robbery (the guy at the desk did not bother to question the stranger walking upstairs!), walking through the market, as I sat eating. Luang Prabang was pretty, but boring and no medical service there (I tried to take a local kid in a village on the river to a doctor, but apparently there was none). In Thailand, where I live, the people are interactive and playful. Whether it is sincere or not, I am not sure. But people are energetic and alive. Maybe it is the communist govt that makes people so lethargic, but it is not a country I would every go to again! The medical service is excellent in my experience in Thailand - public and private hospitals!

Thank you for sharing your experience. I can totally relate to what you’ve mentioned about the inconsistency and lack of interaction. My own visit to the country was also far from enjoyable, especially in terms of hospitality and overall vibe. It’s frustrating when you feel like you’re not welcome or safe. Luang Prabang was indeed picturesque, but beyond the scenery, it felt quite dull. The lack of basic services, like medical care, can be shocking, especially when you contrast it with places like Thailand. I completely agree-Thailand offers much better hospitality, energy, and accessibility in every way. It's one of the reasons I keep returning there! Thanks again for your honest input-it's refreshing to hear someone else’s perspective that resonates with mine.

Khon Kaen is the centre of the universe! Lived and worked here in the city for 18 years and it's my favourite Thai city for sure.

Thank you for your comment and for sharing your experience! 😊 It’s great to hear how much you love Khon Kaen and your connection to the city after 18 years. My experience there, however, was completely different. It didn’t resonate with me the same way, but I always appreciate hearing other perspectives. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts! 🙏
