Well I got out becuz I felt I was tied in chains and not free to shout, dance and worship the Lord. Dancing , shouting, is prohibited in a Methodist Church and yet the Bible tells us that King David danced before the Lord and in the book of Psalms and I don't understand why they don't believe in dancing while playing a tambourine. I'm sorry but I like to worship the Lord in my own way . I'm used to shouting, moving my feet from side to side. The Pastor is a woman. Her relatives are in charge of the Church. I have never in my life have I seen that they pick up an offering in a Bible Study. And their Bible Study is programmed to last about 30 minutes as if they came to agreement to say well let's make the Bible Study short the important thing is to "pick up the offering". It started at 7 and the leading of the Bible church service lasted till 7:30 and we were out of there by 8:00 .

I am really bothered by this persons continued question, “what does this have to do with Christianity “..It has everything to do with the God of Christianity, The living God of all people. This man want God to be only the God of people like him.

The UMC was taken over by heretics because the leadership of the denomination was scared to fight the creeping voices of heresy and squash them when they first appeared. They allowed them to slowly gain influence like untreated cancer until it was too late.

45,000 christian sects, but your Jesus is the correct Jesus? The christian myth is complete nonsense. I became a “born again” believer in a Methodist church in 1983 and have watched the sect break into pieces over the decades. The decline of followers in the Methodist cult is also being seen in Christianity overall. Society is coming to understand that the supernatural belief in gods, angels, demons, sin, and judgment is just bullshit.

Tell me about the parts of the Bible advocated against homosexuality. He had plenty to say about divorce, acquisition of wealth, helping the poor, the stranger, the imprisoned, but nothing about homosexuality. All those who left the UMC left it because of this. And I'm a (69 yo) Methodist. Don't @ me with Old Testament, either. Remember "Jesus said it, I believe it and that settles it"?

In all the years that I attended a UMC, I never heard a warning about sin or hell & I never even remember hearing the name of Jesus in a sermon. Also the head pastor didn’t like the Old Testament & never studied it. That’s why my brother & I left.

John speaks the truth. I left the Methodist Church back in the 90s because of the rainbow crowd taking over. All of us have rights but it doesn't give one group the power to change doctrines of the Bible to serve their needs.

For the Methodists a small group of activists hijacked the church. They were even ignoring a more conservative book of discipline which was voted on and passed. Sadly, many had to go through a great effort to restore Biblical order by creating a new branch.

All Souls live forever? And here I thought eternal life is made possible thru Jesus. You can have eternal life or not have eternal life, but eternal living death is a doctrine made from the whole cloth of the imaginations of men.

In 1845 the Methodist Church split over slavery. The Southern church said that the Bible supported slavery… of course it can be interpreted this way… Of course views change over time on issues like slavery, diet, appropriate clothes to wear and gender roles and sexual behavior. Science also contributes to our understanding of God’s creation. and it is OK!! what does not change is that we are to love ourselves and each other….

This isn’t new. I was raised in the Methodist church. When I got born again (watching Billy Graham) the Lord began to open my eyes to false teaching. When we got a new pastor, he started saying that he could not believe a loving God would send anybody to hell. He also said he personally didn’t see what the big deal was about the virgin birth. I left soon after, to a church that God had already introduced me to. His timing is perfect. ❤ This was in the early 70s.

Do you remember the Catholic priest scandal? It wasn't confined only to the Catholic church. When I discovered that the United Methodist church I grew up in was shuffling a minister/predator from town to town in an attempt to hide his "problem," I could no longer remain a member. That is why I left.

Many thousands of people who have had near death experiences, and whose souls have had a brief glimpse of the other side, come back knowing the there is no organized religion in the afterlife. They also have life reviews where they actually judge themselves on their actions, not some vengeful entity. As for Jesus, whose name was actually Yeshua, he was simply an enlightened teacher who spoke out against the legalism of the other Jewish sects. It was Constantine and the Roman Catholic church who turned him into a supernatural god. The name Jesus even means "Hail Zeus", changed to incorporate the pagan beliefs. I believe that what humans call God is simply the entire miraculous universe. Also, according to other NDEs, the universe is made of of only intelligence and LOVE, a simple but profound concept.

Jesus and His apostles tell us how to be saved by providing specific commandments for salvation in the New Testament Scriptures. They are presented here with example Scripture references. Once we become Christians by obeying Jesus’ commandments for salvation below, we should practice our faith by doing good works. Though good works alone do not save, we practice them BECAUSE we are Christians. “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also” (James 2:26 KJV). --HEAR THE GOSPEL (First Corinthians 15:1-4) --BELIEVE THE GOSPEL (John 3:16) --REPENT OF YOUR SINS, FORMER RELIGIOUS WAYS, BELIEFS, AND PRACTICES (Acts 3:19) --CONFESS BEFORE MANKIND THAT JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD (Matthew 10:32-33) --BE BAPTIZED FOR REMISSION OF SINS (Acts 2:38; Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 22:16; Romans 6:3-5; Galatians 3:27; First Peter 3:21). Note that we cannot be saved until we have remission of sins through baptism, nor is infant baptism found in the New Testament Scriptures. --LIVE A CHRISTIAN LIFE BY OBEYING AND SERVING CHRIST (Matthew 25:31-46; Revelation 2:10). Mention baptism for salvation, and many people immediately turn to the thief on the cross scenario. They claim that we can be saved like the thief on the cross, saved by faith alone in Jesus without being baptized by immersion in water, just as the thief had faith but most likely was never baptized. The difference is that while Jesus was on earth, He had the power to forgive sins (Matthew 9:1-8) as well as to forgive and save the thief on the cross (Luke 23:43). All that was before the New Covenant was established. Since we are not thieves on crosses today and with the New Covenant now in effect, we are subject to all of Jesus’ commandments and cannot be saved in the same manner as the thief. Thus, we must be baptized by immersion in water for remission of sins as one of Jesus’ requirements for salvation. Ephesians 2:8-9 states that we are saved by grace through faith, not works. That is, Jesus saves us through His grace as a gift to those who have faith enough to obey His commandments, WHICH ARE NOT PERSONAL WORKS. Yet denominations abuse the passage in claiming salvation by faith alone in Jesus. But Jesus says, “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15 KJV), just like those above. “Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you” (John 15:14 KJV). “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? (Luke 6:46 KJV). THEREFORE, IF YOU TRULY HAVE FAITH IN JESUS AND YOU REALLY WANT TO BE SAVED, THEN DO WHAT JESUS TELLS YOU TO DO. IT’S. JUST. THAT. SIMPLE.

I’m sorry you don’t understand the theology of John Wesley. You obviously have God and the scriptures all figured out and in a neat little box. Good for you. But for us United Methodists, we are engaged in developing a closer relationship with God. We use scripture, experience, reason and tradition in our life long journey. A “ methodology” (which is why people called them Methodists) that John Wesley developed. It appears you are more of a fundamentalist and prefer to believe what someone else, who gave you their interpretation of scripture, says and means. Your belief in a vengeful God of judgment was never in line with Methodist beliefs in a loving God of Grace. I would suggest that your leaving the United Methodist Church is not because we changed but because you never really understood who we are. I wish you well. I am confident you will have no problem finding others who want you to tell them what God is all about. The people of the United Methodist Church don’t see Christianity the same way. We are on a quest to constantly understand and improve our relationship with God and God’s creation. We see God as being so vast that is going to take us more than a sermon, a study or even several generations. In fact, it’s a never ending process. But we are blessed to be united together in this journey.
