Nice!!!!!! I just bought the set of 2 bins and may now go back for the crate. Your top container has removeable small bins. I like that. Mine has a repositionable latching box. Thank you for this video!

The usb-k5g you have shows is coming out flat to the end of the unit. Mine goes straight in from the back and it doesn't fit. Not sure what's going on.

Hey Joe, i've seen this before when the radio doesn't yet have a good GPS lock. Here's a reply i posted to another person with the same problem. Let me know if this doesn't help: If "iGPS" is not blinking, it likely means it's not yet picked up a good GPS position. make sure the head unit has clear view to the sky, park outside, try not to be under massive trees or next to a bunch of really tall buildings. Driving to a nearby field or parking lot may help. cycle through the "Key" button (Lower left button) until you see the "POS" button option show up (it will be the second button from the right). Tap POS and then tap the "->" button until you get to the last screen which shows you a bunch of bar charts of incoming signal strengths. Once it connects, you should never have to do that again. if it's been a really long time since the radio has been turned on, this can happen. Once it gets the initial connect you should not have this happen again, assuming it's turned on fairly regularly

Thanks for this video. Just sorted camping. I'll definetly copy some of your ideas. Regarding the clothes pins and open bags, something I use at home is "binder clops". Stronger (metal), last almost forever and they come at least 4 different sizes. You may consider it.

I have a weather station that broadcasts to aprs. On the Tm-D700a, I don't see a way to "add" aprs stations. Do you know how that's done?

As long as your weather station is broadcasting its packets on the same frequency (and no DTS/CTCSS tones or anything) i would expect your radio should be able to pick up the packets. are you able to "see" the weather station's packets with any other radio?

I have my radio on the standard wide1-1,wide2-1 (two hops) I have a home node igate/rf repeater. I want to set up the OTHER path option. Can't seem to make it work. I want it to try my home station 1st, then if it fails go wide. Can you give me any ideas, please? Tried so many ways and can't get it to work. Moving to another freq for testing, itwill hit my home station.

Kinda shocked at 1:28... Cover up those electrical contacts and bussbars. Also get a "decent" shorepower connector that is water proof. If it rains water could drip in and cause a short... Also at 6:00. Best to put in a CO and CO2 meter (and smoke detector) in the interior. If a seal goes bad on the combustion chamber in the Diesel heater CO and CO2 could get sucked in with the warm air that is blown around it. It won't run long when that happens but with a small space I'm cautious! Other than that. Lovely little build!

Well here’s some pedantry: Wrong way round. APRS originally stood for APacketRS. When it came out there was no position reporting. It’s only after GPS became popular, and was integrated into the protocol that it was mistakenly called APositionRS. This is because it was then used for tracking more than anything else. Even the Protocol manual title is an error. It was not authored by it’s inventor, but Bob did later accept the new acronym. He can be found on KZbin stating such even after his passing, so now we could say either are correct.

I know, right!? Right when i got everything back on the road, a semi took out our trailer, and then a storm took out the jeep door. lol. hopefully the insurance from the semi incident will be resolved by the end of September so I can finally get out and enjoy some adventuring!

I have a Kenwood TM-D700 which does not have the built in GPS. Can APRSdroid use the tablet GPS and connect it with the radio? Can that be done through the data port, or will I need to use it through the GPS port.

exactly. i put the machine together and thought i loctited all/most? of the hardware but apparently not. I have inspected/adjusted/tightened the whole machine a couple times but apparently ignored these, likely because they were so hidden.... out of sight out of mind 😭

The Kenwood TM-D710 (and previous generations) are the most APRS feature rich, but the Yaesu FTM-400XD is a good close second and will usually be a hundred bucks more affordable. There are also handheld options like the Kenwood TH-72A/74A but I don't have much experience with them. Radioddity also makes some low cost APRS handhelds that I'd love to pick up and play around with some day
