Building an Overland Trailer: Pt 3 - Walls and Cabinets

The Wakamper overland trailer is coming along! While we were away on a long trip, Waka was humming right along adding all the walls and, running all the wiring, and coating the exterior in Raptor truck bed liner. Over the last couple weeks since I've returned, the cabinets, door, window, and rear galley has been knocked out. Only a few tasks remain, so the next video will likely just be a "rig walkaround" of the finished product.

Thank you all for your support! We finally broke the 100 subscriber barrier on the last video! This will likely be the last video showing the behind-the-scenes construction of the Wakamper. It's getting so close and the build is moving so fast now that the next video about it will likely be "Walk Around" of the final product!

At 7.27 I see your putting a sink into the rear cabinet, I think I would have changed that for the gas stove an put sink outside. My reasoning is all your cooking bits and pieces are inside and you could have a cook up in any weather, rain or shine. Luv the build and video, inspiring. Thanks 👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

That's a great idea. I really need to film a walk-around video now that this is complete and in use for well over a year. The cargo door on the passenger side swings down and has a two burner stove attached.

Really love how your trailer is coming along. Can't wait to see it finished. I recently purchased a hiker trailer and was building some shelves for storage similar to yours. I would like to put a sink in as well and was wondering where you bought yours and what is your solution for all the grey water? Thanks.

Hi Brien, awesome build you guys have done! I'm hoping to build one similar this summer. How did you secure the body (I guess it is 1/2" ply) to the steel frame?? Do you guys have a video of the sides & top being put on?
@SonoranSpaceProgram
@SonoranSpaceProgram 5 жыл бұрын
Sorry, i'm a bit late with the reply on this one, we were gone on another little trip to Mexico last week. The body is steel skeleton (1" square tubing) covered in 5/8 plywood. The plywood is attached to the body skeleton with self-tapping screws, and then the skeleton is attached to the frame with a bunch of longer self tapping screws.

That's fantastic. I'm in the process of building one myself and I think I will incorporate some of your design into it. Thanks! BTW what size is the trailer? I thought I saw one sheet of full plywood for the flooring so is it 4x8?
@SonoranSpaceProgram
@SonoranSpaceProgram 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the trailer is essentially a 4'x8' 3d rectangle with angles cut out of it. So for example, the lower angle in the rear is cut off by about 1', so the floor is then 4' x ~7'
@toddmayta7615
@toddmayta7615 5 жыл бұрын
@@SonoranSpaceProgram that's nearly identical to the base trailer I built. Mines 52" by 7 feet. I wanted the interior 48"+. Planned nearly the same design with the rear extended 1 foot at 45 degrees.... did you guys you raptor liner? Does it come in that orange or did you paint over black raptor liner. Orange looks pretty cool!

The water heater is super light, probably only weighs a couple pounds. the weight distribution is great and it tracks just fine. There's more forward weight than may appear from the videos. @SonoranSpaceProgram
@SonoranSpaceProgram 3 жыл бұрын
But the tacos are so good! I will be starting a new trailer build in the near future and will be doing much more detailed "build video" coverage for that one. On this build there was a pretty big time crunch so we were focussed more on building than documenting, I was also still trying to figure out the basics of how to film and edit videos so most of this was haphazard. Thanks for the feedback and hopefully the next build will be right up your alley in terms of detail and actual build content
